Engine wines in morning or when engine is cold?
When I start truck in morning it wines. Espically when its cold out! or after I haven't run in a while it stops if I spray WD-40 on serpentine belt for about two days and then comes back again. The serpentine belt looks fine though. Can anyone help me on what might be the problem my bro has the same problem with his 98 f150. Please let me know thanks!!!
Had mine replaced
I went in for some work on my truck and mentioned the whinning at startup and the replaced the fan clutch under waranty.
If the clutch is not the problem put some abrasive paper on a block of wood and gently rub the bottom of the belt. Alot of time the belt will become glazed on the pulleys and will make noise until warmed up. You can do the same to the pulleys but be careful.

Do I understand that correctly? Do you spray WD-40 on your serpentine belt? If so, DON'T do that, you should never spray any type of oil on your belts. They will slip for sure if you do. When they slip (because of the oil) they will get hotter then normal and that indeed will cause them to glaze and just make your problem even worse over time and very possible that your serpentine could fail and come off. That in turn could possible cause alot of damage under the hood.
I had a problem with mine whinning like yours in the morning. I had about 12,000 miles on it and Ford replaced it (serpentine belt) free. I now have just about 30,000 miles and no whine since it has been replaced. Don't take me wrong, I am not putting you down, but who ever told you to spray WD-40 on your belts DON'T take any other advice from them at least when it comes to your truck.

01 XLT Sportis 110% right, even regular stuff labeled belt dressing can cause a glaze
I suggest a new belt Dayco Poly Cog or Goodyear gatorback is usually the best. While off spin each pulley and feel and listen for roughness in bearings. If that's not it problem may be within the clutch fan or maybe it's just a little normal.
I swear mine as got a bad whine to it at times, I just blame it on the cogs of the Dayco belt.

Ford has an 'updated' (i.e. improved), serpentine belt for almost every serpentine belt usage application out there.
The first thing you will notice about the new belts, is that there is a nice rubber coating, (instead of the dry/gravely look), of the original belt.
Guaranteed squeel fix.

rattling not whining
I recently noticed mine making what sounds like a rattling noise when you push on the gas, I used belt dressing on the belt and the rattling went away, it's something that dosen't happen alot, but I did notice that if you floor it , and it shifts into 2nd the belt slips. Do you think I should try cleaning off the glaze or should I replace it?
