drove an 03 dodge 5.9

not impressed. it was a extended cab 4x4 with the 5.9 auto. this thing was a dog compared to my f-150 with the 5.4. i have to admit the brakes were awesome though!

I have yet to drive the 03 dodge....

but I did drive my dads new 03 Z71 with the 5.3L. I was not impressed either. It seemed more like my 4.6L (now 4.7L) than his 5.4 in the 2000 F150 7700. Both trucks have the same gears, the 7700 had 245/75's instead of 265/75's, and I bet the Chevy weighs less than the 3/4 ton. Anyways, it would not even come close to setting you back in the seat like the torque from the 5.4 does. It seems like anywhere between 0 and 60mph I could let off the gas on the 5.4 and stomp on, put the rpms up close to 4k and it would haul....not so with the 5.3 Chevy. I have a feeling it is gonna suck when it comes to towing. The only thing I like better in the Chevy is the following:

1. More comfortable leather seats
2. Perimeter lighting when doors are unlocked
3. Turn signals in Mirrors
4. Rides smoother and quieter (than the 7700 and my truck)
5. Stereo controls for the nice sounding bose stereo is awesome!!

Still, I wish he had stuck with a Ford Truck!

yea i agree the chevy has awesome stereo and good accellteration, but its still not a ford. Havnt drove a Dodge yet..dont expect any more then the chevy. Also, hussy ive never heard of a 4.7 in a 97 ford....hmmmm?
281 cu. in. / 60.1 cu in per litre = 4.67 litres

You are correct, and I was mistaken...

I have the Ford 4.6L Windsor motor that came stock in 97. Now, after the rebuild and boring (.030) over {(.030 x 281cc) + 281}= 289.4. Now, 289.4ci / 60.1 ci/L = 4.82L if I do the math correct. So I guess I have a 4.8L not a 4.7 or 4.6L?

Add the 70 some cubes your missing and you've got a race.
Ford makes more power per cube/liter period.

On a side note:
No matter what you got, it dont matter after the light turns green and your looking at tail lights.

Well, it was a 5.3l, not a 5.7l. They make 285hp. Good for racing, bad for towing. Come on, its a Corvette LS1 derival.

yea, i was gonna say, i didnt think they even put the 5.7s in any of the new chevys. The only chevys that i would have to say is fast, are the ones with the 8.1. I also have driven a supercharged 5.3 suburban. Nothing could keep up with me in that , but thats a supercharger for ya.

What Shmed?!?

Shmed,

I have a 99 also, its a 4x2, with 265/60/18 tires, and 3.08 gears. My truck is totally stock in the drivetrain. I can burn the tires on my truck on dry pavement very easily. I can even break them loose power braking. Sounds like your truck may not be up to par huh? Not trying to put down your truck, but that doesn't seem right to me. One thing you didn't say is what tranny your truck has. Mine has the 4r70w.

You dont have LS, perhaps he does?

I have LS and I cant peel out when its above 80F. Anywhere below that, and depending on the surface, I can lay up to 15-20 feet of solid stripes.

well my trans is an auto, which one i dont know..
its not a limited slip rear either.
the truck was ordered with the towing package if that helps.
i have 42000 kms on it now, runs well, all stock except i put on a ravin muffler.
i also have 4 wheel disc brakes, this thing wont brake torque, or spin the tires no matter what i try.
unless its raining.
otherwise from a dead stop its a total dog...
any ideas?
ive been to the dealer and all i get is what do you want its a full size truck with a small engine..shoulda got the 5.3 if you wanted more power..

you mean 5.4 but even then my supercab 4.6 without a limited slip diff makes it hard not to peel out, maybe it's my lead foot or you just have really sticky tires and asphalt. there are too many variables to really diagnose your truck but unless it's misfiring or something you should be fine.

My friend has a 5.7 99 suburb, and I smoked the living SHXX out of him off the line. True, he has more mass, but he also has a relative size block. I have a 4.6/281. His turbo MR2, though, kicked my truck's ***, so we'll call it even. That damn size thingy!!!
The lighter you are and the motor you have determines the race...
