Battery & Idle Rpm

Newbie here - Did some searching and couldn't find an answer. I have a 1987 F150 w/ 302 efi. When I disconnect the battery and reconnect it the engine won't idle if you take your foot off the gas pedal. It will eventually get back to normal after several days of driving. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process. I've owned this truck since day one and this has always happened. Thanks for any cure.

It sounds like your prob is with the Idle Air Control Solenoid but I don't get the connection with disconnecting the battery. There is probably a relearn for it to speed it up the process but where to find it is a good question.

when you re-connect the battery and start the engine for the first time make sure you DO NOT touch the gas pedal for approx. 5 minutes. let the computer reset it's idle parameters. then you should be fine.

Thanks HCMQ. I've tried that in the past and it doesn't work. Here's what happens. Foot off the gas and cold start: Runs about 20 seconds and then stops. Turn key off and start again with foot off gas - Runs a few seconds and stops. Repeat those steps many times and it always runs a few seconds and stops. If you drive around for a week or two using your gas foot to keep it idling it will finally idle correctly. Guess the ole gal is a real slow learner.
