underhood temperature dilema
i have a 2001 screw with a 5.4 litre and i have a k/n fipk kit installed. i am looking for a way to route cold (or at least cool) air to the filter assy. dont know why k/n designed it this way. everyone knows that cooler intake air makes more horsepower. i had seen a forced air kit for a mustang and have been looking for one for an f150 and have had no luck.
i figured if anyone would know it would be an f150 online gooroo...
we gotta stick together to kick those chevy and dodge asses.

Actually there are a few guys who have done tests on under the hood temps. I believe that they concluded that once the truck is moving the under hood temps are within a couple degrees of the outside temp. It's only at idle, standing still, that you would get the warmer temps.
I used a HVAC bend and a aluminum dryer vent hose to channel more "cooler" air to the area of the open filter. It's not a ram air, just channels more of the cooler air.
I think that an open air filter is better than the OE set up as it is far less restrictive. The findings of the guys that did the tests make sense to me. I think were ok with the open air filters. Just keep moving and you should be getting all you can get.

i was also considering getting a dual electric fan to help cool things down and unleash some horsepower. not really sure is this will make a difference or not.

I hear the electric fans are well worth it. I think the gains are something like 15-20hp. Doesn't sound like much but I've been told you can really feel the difference. Elactric fans are on my want list but I'm not sure if they are next. I will do it eventually.

Call me a pessimist, but it's very unlikely that you will get 15-20hp just from electric fans. Their have been claims of about 20hp with an fipk and tests have shown that it is typically in the under 10hp ranking and probably closer to 5hp. Don't believe all the exagerated hype on what certain modifications provide.

You will notice a definite performance improvement with E-fans. Maybe an honest 10hp increase. Some have been lucky getting 1-2 mpg's improvement but I only got about .3 mpg increase.
Also, you're engine compartment with be hotter because the E-fans sucking more air.

where did you get that hood scoop? looks like one off of a stang. how long did it take you to install it?

thanks alot !!! ......yup gt/bullitt hood scoop ..... www.fordpartsnetwork.com got it painted for $77...couple nuts, washers, screws, dremel tool and your ready to go !! made a grill for it too to match the main grill...

there are a ton of vehicles out there with scoops ....straight from the manufacturer...look at the ram air firebird...the scoop goes strait into the air cleaner...or all of the old muscle cars .water gets in your engine anyway ......front grill?? the opening is only like 20" x 1.5".......i wouldn't worry to much...also if you put on a scoop with no opening under it crap will get built up in there....thanks !!

That sucks marcscrew. I am asuming nobody was injured???? I hope not anyhow.
That big hunk of metal can be replaced. Good health and well being is harder to replace.
