Is it synthetic blend from factory?

Is the oil that is put in the new ford trucks at the factory the same 5/20 syth blend that is called for in the owners manual for
changes? If it is, I wonder why Ford doesn't advertise this as a possible selling point.

Ya know...

I just assumed it was the 5w-20 syn blend, but I have not seen it, or read about it anywhere.

That is a good question...

I work in a FORD Dealership in Service and the 5w-20 we use is a synthetic blend.

STWater,

I'm curious. Do you use the 5W20 oil in your truck? How do you feel about using 5W30 synthetic?

Thanks
Pete

I think in order to meet the API requirements they need to use some Group III in the 5w20 viscosity.

Whether you consider Group III a synthetic is the question.

mssparks-Please elaberate on your reply, is the syth in Ford's 5/20 just a play on words or is it a legit syth blend as defined by the oil industry standards? Also does Mobile-1 make a 5/20 syth (I can"t find it anywhere) and where do you find/purchase the amsoil 5/20 syth? After my engine breaks in properly, I am switching to pure syth.

To elaborate follow this link to the evolution of current base oils and how group III oils are more (or less) a synthetic:
http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/BaseOils/docs/ebot.pdf

As far as the mobil 1 I don't believe they have a current 5w20 product.

Amsoil's forumulation for the XL7500 series including the 5w20 is of Group III base oils.

You will need to pay a small fee of $11.00 which will be good for 6 mo then you will be able to purchase product from them at wholesale. I believe 5w-20 is around $4.50 a qt. I have not ordered from them in a while so these prices may have changed. Basically Amsoil wants people to become dealers, but you do not have to sell their product.

The *blend* is a great marketing scheme for the masses. Study up on real synthetics and you'll understand why some of us are synthetic all the way. I run them in my trucks, car, and boats. even thinking of my lawn mower after talking to a Honda dealer the other day. His shop recommends fully synthetic oils and lubricants to all of his customers.

Like what would it cost, most lawnmowers hold 1/2 quart or less. So it might cost 2 bucks a year or so. It only makes sense!!

I put in synthetic in my lawn mower since new. It runs great!!

Amsoil Complaint!

I put el cheapo Chevron 30 weight dino oil in my mower and change it once every other year. Mower runs great too.

I have Amsoil synthetic compressor oil in my old compressor. I have one MAJOR complaint! After all this time, maybe 15 or 20 years, the plastic bottle with the extra oil fell apart! Can I get a replacement and compensation for the kitty litter I used to clean up the mess?

My truck came from the factory with green break in fluid ( I think).
The green color made an impression on me as well as my mechanic. I changed the oil for the first time at 1,000 mi.

( 2001 4.6Ltr.)

Still don't know what that shXX was!
