Using Chevron Techron for pinging.

My truck is starting to ping again. I notice it at about 45-50 mph, when I am going uphill or when I give it a little gas under light load conditions at these speeds. I've read that Chevron Techron would take care of it. But I also remember reading that after I use the Techron, I should change my oil because the deposits from the engine turns the oil black. I just changed my oil, so would I be better off to wait until I get close to 3k miles before using the Techron treatment?

What engine do you have? Running a higher octane gas should help eliminate the pinging. The techron would clean your fuel system. I wouldn't worry about the oil change as your filter should catch any thing that may get into the oil. Most would probably be dissolved and burnt during combustion.

Try using a higher octane to see if it help and maybe some fule system cleaner as well.

It totally depends on how many miles you have on your truck and how bad the pinging is. If it's got lots of miles and pinging bad for a long time, I'd say you should wait and treat it just before you change your oil.

If the pinging is slight and your truck doesn't have a lot of miles, then the chances of a lot of carbon being built up in the combustion chamber is a lot lower, hence less carbon blow-by getting into the oil.

Slight pinging won't hurt your engine, especially if it doesn't happen all the time. It sounds like you can wait a bit to treat the engine.

Hey no fuel cleaner or engine flush is gonna get rid of your ping. Most likely your hearing the results of advance in the timing curve changing which is something YOU cannot control. It's been common for a long time to run a max or near max advance for engine smoothness and emissions under light load conditions. Ussually Ford's burn richer to make up for this. Donn't waste your cents on higher octane.........by the way........How many miles?.....what model year? If you have a REAL problem then it's a hardware related and needs to be found.

Thanks for the input guys. It's a 2001 F-150 w/ 4.2l v6. It just turned 20,000 miles.

Wow, with those low miles I don't see how you could have carbon build up bad enough to cause a ping. Use a quality gas to help prevent build up.
Giving it gas at a low rpm's in too high of a gear can cause a ping also, try dropping down a gear. If that doesn't do it and your running 87 oct I'd have it checked.
Good Luck!
