Speedometer change

Hello, I am upgrading my factory speedo ( no tach) to one that has a tach. I have read this is a straight forward swap? just plug it in and go? My next question has to deal with the mileage, is there any way I could change the mileage on the newer one, or have the dealer do it? Any help is apreciated.

Sorry I don't have any answers for you but I'd like to add to the question.

I too would like to change the spedo. I have the tach. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Lightning guages would work. I don't know if I would be able to just plug in the spedo, and have it read accurately. I would like to know about what I'm doing after the end of the current spedo. I also have the Magnacharger on there. I don't know if I could connect the boost guage.
I know that there are guage pods available but I would like the factory look of the Lightning guages. I would find a way to cover or remove the SVT, being that I don't have an SVT.

I'm also wondering the same thing as monroes. I don't have the digital odometer. What would have to be don't to have the new guage reflect the actual mileage?

Thanks!

Lightbulb Be careful

The lightning pod will work, yes, but will not just bolt in. Well, it will just bolt in, but the truck will not start after that. You need 1 of 3 things to accomplish the replacement.

1 - A Ford Star Service tool to do a reset of the new pod and make it initialize to your truck
2 - A handy-dandy Ford dealer with the Star tool, who will reset the mileage on your new pod to the mileage on the old
3 - A ROM burner with the knowledge to make your own ROM to initialize your new pod to your truck.

I also undersand there issome sort of *magic* module that may plug into the back of the pod to accomplish this, though I have yet to be able to get my hands on 1.

Thanks taggert, for the info.

Do you know someone that has tried this? Do you know of anyone that has done it? I'm not saying that I think your wrong, I really had no idea this stuff was necessary. I guess I would like a bit more info if you could.

Do you know if this would effect what monroes is trying to do?

Thanks.

My truck is a 95, but I changed out my cluster to one with a tach, and it worked fine. # big plugs, and the auto tranny metal wire to show what gear your in. PLUG and PLAY

i would imagine that on the newer trucks thay have alot of precautions to prevent odometer fraud. I really want to switch over to a new 02 HD pod. because i think it would look great and i have added the charger so i want it to say SUpercharged. I also really want the 140MPH speedo. i have a 3 gauge piller pod for boost and stuff.... but i would like to get the higher speedo. if any of you guys do this mod let me know how it works out. and how much it costs.

cluster change

Monroes

if your truck is 98 or earlier you can do the swap with no problem but if it is 99 and up you will have to have the cluster reprogrammed thru the pats anti theft in the cluster to except your ignition key chip, whether it be someone you know or a ford shop but it is not going to start and as for the milage on the 99 or up it will do it for you. the right miles will show right away, but on the 98 or earlier you will have to send out to speedometer shop to change it . good luck gary

Thank you for your replys.
I have a 1997 so it won't be a problem with the instalation. Is there anyway I could go to the title dept. and have them issue me a new title that would tell the miles on the previous odometer and the new one?

Thanks alot,

Scott
