Question Anyone get an aftermarket warranty???

I received a thing in the mail for one of those aftermarket warranty companies (United American Warranty) and they offer a 100k mile warranty that covers darn near everything for just about $1K. There is a $50 deductible for each repair but you can take it where you want and that's about that.

Has anyone ever purchased one of these? I only opted for the standard 3/36 since I didn't want to pay Ford something on the order of $1500 for a warranty that only goes to 70k miles...

Enquiring minds want to know!
Chris

If you are considering an extended warranty IMO you should call
Gene Louder (800-953-3321) who works at a Ford dealer in southern Texas...he sells ESP warranties for $100 over cost! Ford ESP is pretty well a known quantity. Some of the aftermarket one's aren't.

Up to 1yr/12k miles you can buy them at list. After that they add $100 to the cost. You can get them up to 7 yr/100k with various deductibles.

Gene's a good guy. Everything done as promised. Do a search. Everyone who's done biz with him seems to agree.

Beware, my buddie bought one (from Ford however when he purchased the truck) $1500. The only problem he ever had was the abs light came on because of a faulty sensor or something and you couldnt start the truck because of safety interlock. To make a long story short, the warrenty didnt cover it. I dont know if it was electronics or what, but if they dont cover a sensor, its just about worthless. He still had to foot the $200 bill even though he only had the truck 6 months and bought the extended warrenty (bought it with 40k on it, outside fac warenty). He of course griped but still ended up having to pay for it. Just beware of what it actually does cover and what they say isn't covered. Remember, these people are out to make money. Extended warrenties are just like insurance, if you use it it more than pays for itself. If you never use it its just money gone. Reguardless, the warrenty carrier fairs on there side of average costs. Im not suggesting you buy one or don't, just make sure you know what you are getting.

I bought it (Ford esp) in a fit of passion. My van had just blown an oil seal and the fix was $800. So when I got my new truck, back in 99. I wanted to be protected from that. If I had it to do over I would not buy it. Here's why. It cost nearly $1000. The chances of having $1000 service bill (1100 with deductible) in the first 75,000 mi is only slightly better than winning the lottery. And that would only get you to breakeven.

I know there some folks who have had major problems early in the truck life but come on. Look how many F150 are running around out there.

A good poll would be to have anyone on the board here who has had a $1000+ service covered by the warranty chime in here.

I bought a 3/36 when i bought my used truck this year, the warenty was about 1200.00 and it allready had 68k on it, this should brink it to about 104k before my warenty is up. Havnt had a problem with it yet, but i allready got 74k on it and ive only had it for 3 mo so i dont know if ill get to 3 yrs. But if anything goes out, tranny, engine, anything, i know i have it covered for a hundred bucks.

Getting a warranty on a used vehicle is probably not a bad idea, since you don't really know how well it was taken care of.

Let's see now, if I had my grand back, I could get a micro tuner, valve body and electric fans for the same dough. Or maybe new gears and a powertrax instead of the the fans.
