Question How does this sound???

Hi guys.... I need a little help. I used to own a '79 F150 camper spcl, but I haven't owned a Ford truck for over 10 years.

I am looking at a 2002 F150 XLT 4X4 Supercab, 5.4, charcoal grey, completely stock, never wrecked, near perfect condition, 16K hwy commute miles. It has the smaller 16" wheels, and small tires - but it has 4 whl disk with ABS, 6500# tow capacity (std?), electronic overdrive transmition, CD, 60/40, 3.55, yadda, yadda.... We've agreed to $21500. Sound like a decent deal? I don't have a LOT of room to negotiate, because the motor in my Mustang seized up yesterday and I need a vehicle.... I think it is actually a pretty good deal, I just wanted to check with you guys first. Is there anything that I should be looking out for? Is there anything to be worried about with that low of mileage???

Let me know. Thanks!!

So you are saving 1/3 of the cost of the truck for 16,000 miles. It sounds pretty good to me. You should make sure and find out why the person wants to get rid of it and talk to the dealership where it gets serviced.

Good luck!

Not much service up to this point. He says he's had the oil changed about 4 times. No receipts for that, but he should be in the Oil Can Henry's computer system..... I'm going to check.

I have the window sticker here at home... here are the options

Eqp pkg 507A
5.4L eng
Electronic 4spd auto O/D
3.55 LSD
pwr adjustable pedals
6500" GVWR package
Electronic shift 4X4
SRW
Class III towing

Oh yeah.... He's getting rid of it because he's a fairly young kid (about 20-21), and he got in over his head. Seemed like a pretty quiet, nice guy. Can't judge a book by it's cover.

If you don't buy it, I will. Yes, jump on it, that's a great price. I just paid 27k for my 2002 XLT Supercab 4x2 4.6l V8. It was brand new, but a 4x4 in my truck with the 5.4 would have run about 30k.

Also, when you say charcoal grey do you mean dark shadow grey? If so, that's what color my truck is. I waited 2 weeks for that color because I loved it so much.

In all seriousness, if you don't buy the truck, send me an email.

Good luck.

Sounds good, I just bought a 2001 with 1900 miles on it and spent over $21000 It's a 4X2 and didn't have the tow package, but it has it now.

I want to thank you guys for your input. I have done some research, and it seems like a good deal. I don't think I am "stealing" it from the guy, however.... There are many similar deals on similar trucks in the area. Unfortunately, since my Mustang seized up, I needed to make a choice FAST.

Thanks again.

You might take a look and make sure you don't see any oil leaks (especially the passenger-side head gasket.) With all the issues people have reported with oil leaks on new F-150's (in some cases brand new) if it was me I'd crawl under there and take a look.... Sound like a great price though... I only paid about $2500 less than you for a regular cab 4.6/auto XLT flareside when it was new (that probably stickered for close to 10 grand less!)

Huh? I think you just posted that to get to 100 posts (and "senior member" status?)... Or did it have a purpose?

sounds good! I don't think the 02's had a leak problem, but I would suggest getting a Ford ESP anyway.

The only thing that bugs me is 16k seems to be a lot for an '02 or am i just nuts?!?!?!

it is the same set up as my '99 and i love my truck!

Yep, 16K is alot for an '02. It's only 8 months old. The kid drove the car 60 miles/day - 6 days/week. It's in really great shape, tho.

I looked at the head gaskets... I didn't see any leaks to speak of. I did notice what appeared to be some "weepage" (sp?), but it was so small it could have just been some spill over during an oil change. The truck is very fun to drive.
