Built a 460....
hey guys,
dang i havent posted on here in a long time. last time you heard from me, i had blown my v-6 in my 97, and was in the process of putting a big block together for it. well i built the big block but because of time constraints, i had to put it back in the old 78. it sucked because i wasnt able to get it in the newer truck, but i have no regrets, the 466 ci. engine can really pull the 6000 lb truck around. i have come across a new engine for the 97 though. a cammed out 302, and t-5 tranny for only 1200 bucks! i am still debating to whether i should still put the 460 in the red truck. my concerns are space and modification. i want to keep the c-6 but i still need room for the turbos i plan to install. i think if i went with the 302, i could still add turbos with a little bit more ease and i wouldnt have to cut back the firewall.
has anybody ever done a big block swap like that? i know that engine swaps can take a long time, i just dont want to get into having to cut any of the front members for space clearance, just try to only cut the firewall, maybe,
any links or help or insight would be appreciated.
oh yeah still have v-6 parts, i could just go back with a hopped up 6, i still need a daily driver. talk to you guys later

Yes it has been a while superfreak.... haha, i remember way back when you were gonna put a 200shot or something to try and blow your 6 up!
Sorry, can't help you on your questions... I myself wouldn't change the V6 at all! Here shortly I will prove just how much the 6 can be for performance. New idea's and mods are in the works that'll put me down into the Lightning times daily driver and have that power available 24/7.
Let all of us know what your up to...

man, i know the v-6 can perform, but you cant match the torque offered by the v-8's especially the big blocks. plus, a lot of the guys running lightnings around here, pull them right off the factory floor and run 12.7's with minor adjustments, not mods. to run a 12.7 in the 6 would require a bunch of cash that i dont have. plus its really easy to set up an old block for racing. shoot, just adjust the timing, hit the nitrous, and hold on to your butt. the reason my six went out was not the nitrous, i ran a 150 on it all night trying to get it to blow. by the way, i wasted a whole bottle on 150 dry shots, and only pulled an 8.36 in the eight-mile. i was not very happy, but the v6 did make it make home, and continued to run for another month before the oil pump took a dump. when i pulled it apart, the combustion chambers were really clean, no damage to the pistons or heads whatsoever, kind of suprised me. but when that oil pump went out, the crank, three rods, were so chewed up id have to get a whole new rotating assembly for sure. whats wierd is that the bearings that went out, kind of ripped in half, they really didnt look spun at all, no hardcore wear, just tear.
oh well, im trying to get the big block ready for fun ford so i can go bracket race, but i dont think im gonna make it this year.
hey talk to yall later

sounds reasonable...
I knew a guy here in houston that sprayed a wet 175 shot... lasted him 6 months till he burned a hole in the piston. He did have a custom chip for it...
****, if i sprayed a 150 shot i would be low 13's, don't know about yours... do you have the automatic?

no i have the 5 speed with the frikkin tall gears. 3.08's or 3.05's i cant remember, if i go with the big engine combo though, my 9 inch with 4.11's is going in. haha, im tired of no torque, my 460 has spoiled me.
