power steering whine
power steering whine
My power steering whines loud when cold and pretty loud when warm. Only 3000 miles. Fluid is fine and the dealer has purged air from it once already. Do I go the trouble to get it replaced or give it more time to maybe break in and go away? No other problems so far.

Hate to say it, but the power steering whine is normal... They all whine fairly loud from day one when there new, and to the best of my knowledge don't really 'break in' at all. Hopefully Ford will come out with a better power steering system on the next generation F-150. You can improve apon (but not eliminate) the power steering whine by replacing the fluid with synthetic power steering fluid. I believe FamilyRide did this and it helped quite a bit...

Ford has had pretty crappy/loud p/s pumps for years. Get some Mercon V and use that....if your current p/s fluid is really nasty you may want to consider filling it...going bump stop to bump stop a few times and draining it till it stops coming out discolored. I use Mercon V in both my Bird and my truck. It helped alot on my Bird.
It won't break in and go away, mine has 68k miles and still whines. Maybe try the stuff these guys said. I used a needle(syringe)adapter on my grese gun, greased all the ball joints and steering components, it did help out a little, but i can still here it from time to time.
Mine only whines when the temperature is well below zero, and even then it only whines for like 5 seconds tops and then its all quiet again. Other than that it never whines an other time.

If you will go to take a U-turn, and cut your wheel all the way to the left or right to the point where you can't turn your steering wheel anymore I'd just about bet you it will whine... I've never seen a Ford that didn't.
