Trans. size in 99 4.6
I have a 99 f-150 4.6 with an automatic trans. I wanted to get a shift kit but I dont know what type trans I have? Can someone please tell me. Thanks
dsm327,
Check your Trans. code on your door sticker. You will probably see a "U", which means you've got a 4R70W auto. I think all 4.6 trucks get this trans, with an exception possibly being if it is a California-emissions setup, in which case it might have a 4R100. Don't quote me on that, it may only apply to 5.4's. All Lightnings get 4R100's, as well as Super Duty's. The "70" stands for 700 ft-lbs of rated torque, and the "100" stands for 1000 ft-lbs. Hope this helps. I'm considering doing the same thing myself eventually.

fordman--I wish it was ture about the 700 and 1000 ft lbs...
I have a Super Duty and I wish it could handle 1000 ft lbs...beacuse I have about 700 I am trying to push through it...
The multiplier is 5X not 10 X....
The 4r100=500ft lbs torque
The 4r70=350ft lbs......
Sorry I had to bring this to your attention...but I am seeing this alot on this board about these trans and what they are rated at...
