Picked up my 2001 4.6L w/tow package which was built on 09/20/00 in Norfolk,VA. It too has the 1.02" core. Called the dealer who insisted that this was the correct radiator. When I quoted the 2001 Source Book as well as the Ford Web Site specs. he wavered and agreed to investigate. His dealership is Blue Oval certified so it will be interesting to see how they handle this situation.
I wonder if this matter is confined to only those vehicles made in VA.
Will let the board know how I make out with my visit to the dealer this Friday.

When I got there he showed mw th 2001 Source book which indicated a 2.02" overall radiator coil thickness for the Screw. When I got home I took off the cowling to measure and see if there was indeed 2.02" of radiator. I saw 2-rows, i.e double core, radiator. In addition, the Auto Trans Oil Cooler below these.

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys, but total thickness measured over 2", each row slightly over 1" each. Maybe I'm missing something here. Which plant are the guys getting their Screws from with only a single 1.02" row radiator - Kansas City or the the Michigan plant?

F.Y.I. the number listed on the drivers side of the housing was XL3H-AB (?)

I'm even more confused now than before.

Mine also came from the KC Plant. My dealer looked at my truck Saturday, confirmed my information from their source book and called their Ford Rep Monday to see what was going on. We also looked at the trucks on their lot and they all had the single row radiator with the part number you listed.

Tray,

You should be happy as h*ll, you escaped the radiator misbuild. Do you know which plant your Screw was produced? My truck was KC. Maybe this is a plant error.

Tray,
Are you sure the second row you were measuring was part of the radiator and not the Air Conditioning Condensor? According to the 2001 source book online and all previous threads the 2001 models with the tow package should have a 1.42" single core radiator, not a 2.02" 2 core. Were both rows integrated into the tanks at the sides of the radiator?

How do you tell if the truck has the heavy duty tow package? I have the 1 inch radiator but thought that the sticker said heavy tow package when I bought the truck.

birwin 18 The easiest way to tell is look at the window sticker. If it has a factory installed trailer hitch and tranny oil cooler then it is most likely the tow pkg. No tow pkg. vehicle should have the 1.02" radiator let us know what you find

Question

I checked my raditor just now on my new SCrew, and I am more confused than before. Here is what I found:
Towards the cabin, there is a core with part number XL3H-AB, about 1" wide. In front of that, about 1.5", there is another core, almost the same size, and although I can't tell if it is the double core radiator, It does have a cable with a HD tag on it.
Even further in front, but low down, there are 2 other cores about the size of a piece of paper, right next to each other. I suspect one of these is a tranny cooler. Not sure what the other is.
So do I have a double radiator? What I have read seems to indicate I should have one radiator at 1.42" Can someone tell me what all these "coolers" are for?

Brossman, 2001 models with the tow package should have a single core 1.42" radiator. The second core 1.5" infront of it is the air conditioning condensor. The other smaller core may be a power steering cooler??

Brossman-

The radiator is the unit closest to the engine. The one ahead of it, is the A/C. Low and on the drivers side, Power steering cooler, low and pass side, trans cooler. If you measured the radiator core, and got 1", and you have the tow package....join the club.

Brossman,
You have the same part number that is on mine and it is a single core 1.02", which is incorrect for the trailer towing pkg. I am going Monday armed with all this nice info to the dealer. Just let them smart off and not give me the correct radiator. I believe that this incorrect part would consistute a "Mis-representation or Fraud" lawsuit. I think that those words should get the radiator that I am suppose to have. Wish me luck.

Hi All

Add me to the list of having the wrong radiator. I have a 2001 f150 4.6 supercab with tow package and the 1.02 radiator. it should be the 1.42 radiator, needless to say i will be talking to the dealer very soon. I got my truck in november 2000.

How can this happen to an Arizona Truck???
I measured the top of my radiator tank, and sure enough 1". I will contact my dealer later today. What a scam Ford could have gotten away with, without the electronic bulletin boards of the electronic age.
My thanks to the first person who scratched his (her) head and said, Humph, this don't look right!

Wink

The service manager for my dealer called today. He said Ford would not replace the radiator as a build error. Build errors asupose to be report within 48 hours. He did however spot a radiator leak over the phone and has ordered a new 2.2" 2 core!! He is appearantly a diagnostic genius!
