Installing Cruise Control

Is it possible to install factory cruise control to a truck? Is it a manner of just buying the steering wheel switchs and controller under the hood and just plugging the items into the wiring harness.

I found a truck at a dealer that has every option I desire except that one.

I didn't think they made these trucks without cruise unless you strip it down to nothing!

I asked a similar question and the response I got was that you can get aftermarket cruise control setups. I was wondering about the same thing as you . . . just getting the stock wheel with the controls. There has to be a simple plug in I would think but who knows.

My truck is only XL trim so it didn't come with it. It sure would be nice for long trips though.

I just installed cruise on mine about 3 weeks ago.

The answer is YES to both. You can install a factory cruise control set-up even if the truck didn't come with a cruise originally. I don't know which harness would be in your particular truck and I don't know if they harness each model differently, but if there isn't an already existing harness/plug you can tap into the harness at 2 places at the back of the ECU. But it will be a good amount of work to install it all.

I just installed an aftermarket unit and it wasn't all that difficult and waaaayyyy less crud to install than the factory.

Cougar Guy:

The aftermarket I just installed kept the same steering wheel. You mount a stalk on the steering column. It works SPIFFY...:-)
