Talking My BEST mileage!

Last week my buddies and I decided it was time for a road trip to Canada! Well to make a long story short we took my pickup and headed to Winnipeg. We arrived at the hotel parking and I had 414 miles or so on the trip meter. Well we messed around and had some fun with some rice rockets in town, and even had fun with a Camaro.

Got home and just finished off the tank of gas on way home. End up with 984.7 miles on the trip meter. I burned 54 gallons of gas.

This equals out to 18.24mpg on our lil road trip!

BTW - The last tank of gas ran out at 19.64mpg.

I didn't figure this was bad at all! I have a 5.4, true dual straight pipes 2.5" and a chip.

Mileage is around 51,600.

Just went on a road trip last weekend out West and got 19.98 mpg going out there which was the best I've ever got out of my 4.6.

That's great for you guys...I wish I had your trucks.

Why do I seem to get only 13-15 mpg? I do have a 4x4 but should that make that much difference?

Anything I can do to help improve that milage? I don't stomp on the thing all the time, just occasionally. Recently changed plugs, wires and coil packs...only slight improvement. Ran fuel injector cleaner thru it every oil change (running synthetic - Mobil 1).

Anything else that would help? All advice (good or not) is always appreciated...Thanks

I'm not sure why mine gets the mileage that it does. I stomp on it frequently and let the bowties and the rockets hear the FORD power . The previous owner had the chip installed, I have NEVER run premium fuel in my pickup. I found the gas that my pickup likes the most is 87 Octane. I get best mileage with that fuel.

Driving style has the most effect on mileage. I notice when I really baby it from a standing stop(accelerate very slow), I get the best city mileage. Most of us will just mash the "LOUD" pedal, to get moving. Try it for a tank fill.
