Post Engine Mods

I am considering doing some minor modifications to my 2000 F-150 XLT 4.6L including adding a Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer, and a new BBK Throttle Body Assembly. I wanted to see if anyone out there used either/both of these products and if so, I would like to know how they worked for you. I am also considering adding an aftermarket exhaust. The Borla Cat Back system seems to be one of the better ones available. Any thoughts from others who have tried that one? I am not really interested in adding a lot of "noise" with a system - although something a little more muscular than the muffled sound of the stock unit would be great. Thanks to Steve Wroblewski for the great tech tip on the airbox modifications. You saved me about 150.00!

poweraid throttle spacer--don't have one, but most people on the boards seem to think they make good paper wts only.
most people on this board and others think that the best performance mods for the buck are;
Superchip
fipk (airforce1--K&N--airaid)

i wanted the borla muffler also for the same reason you do. went with the single swept style(stainless steel) in gibson instead because Borla ignored my e-mails and questions for 2 months.
my gibson is just a little more sound then stock--can't even hear it in the cab(which is good to me). you may want to go Borla it may be a louder sound.

Thanks for the response. Quieter for me is actually better, so that may be the right way to go. Like I said, I don't want to add a whole lot of noise. I will keep you posted on the other mods I make (poweraid, throttle body, etc.) On paper, I should pick up about 25 HP, but we'll see if I can feel any difference.

don't even touch the poweraid spacer. my bbk throttle body was worth the cost...if anything, i think the bushings(on the shaft) are less prone to leak(air). the t/b did give better throttle response. have the flowmaster delta 50 muff. just slightly louder than stock...but did lose some low-end torque. probably would try a ravin muff if i had it to do all over again.

btw, this all became moot on 5/8/01, for me...see sig.

Don't get the spacer, but if you really want one, I'll give you mine. It's somewhere in my tool box! I have the Ravin Z-55 exaust and love it. It sounds sweet in the lower gears, but it can be a little loud in 5th going up hills. I would definately recommend it though.... Good luck.

Check out the the Tech Articles - he detailed an airbox mod that looks similar to a FIPK. I think that, combined with a silencer removal mod, should give similar performance for a lot less money.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I will avoid the spacer and invest the money in either a TB or exhaust.

I definitely decided to trash the idea of the poweraid. I took some time to read a bunch of the posts on here and found that even if it did give me 8 more HP, the "screaching belt" noise wouldn't be worth it! Decided to stick with Steve's airbox mod for now and I am adding an exhaust in a couple of weeks. Superchip is down the road, but from what I have read on here, it is probably the best bang for the buck. Thanks again to everyone for the advice.
