4.6 manual reg cab
i dont get it.
i had to go out of state when i bought my truck. i wanted a stick and could not get one in new jersey anywhere. went to several dealers, all did locates and only 1 found one (in new york about a hour from home)
the auto is rated for higher towing capacity, but i cant believe how lopsided the manual/auto tranny thing is. my truck would not nearly be as much fun to drive with an auto. my wife drives an accord 4-door stick as well. wouldnt have our vehicles any other way.

In your future mods list you mention a short throw shifter. Unless you have info that i haven't seen, there isn't one out there. Believe me I have called Hurst and B&M directly and asked if they had any plans on making one for our trucks, Hurst had said they were kicking the idea around, but if htey haven't done it by now I doubt it will happen. I called them around a year ago.
But as far as the short bed short cab 5-speed there is no other truck. My next truck will have to be an extended cab. But believe me it will still be a manual, hopefully a 6-speed diesel. I have two kids now, 3 and 2 so I need the room. I love my truck though.

OLE BLUE,
You are correct. They do not yet have a shifter for our trucks. I have been in contact with Hurst recently (see transmissions "short throw...anything new). I think they need to have a couple late model F150's so they can get the necessary info. I would bring mine in, Ohio is a long drive from MA though. I want a shifter like this SO bad! I think it would make a world of difference in these trucks. I posted on the transmissions board in the hopes that some one might be closer to Ohio, and wouldn't mine having Hurst poke around in thier truck for a while. It dosen't seem likely at this piont. Maybe I will end up thking the ride. I mean I really want this shifter!

Does any one have or know what our trucks run in the 1/4 mile? I got a friend w/ a 4.7 5spd Dakota that says the Dakotas run low 15's. He wanted to know what mine does but I never had an answer for him!
Have you looked at the shifter? It's not made like the typical shifter. The fulcrum is not in the shifter, it's actually inside the tranny. I took mine aprat to see if there was anything that could be done shadetree style. I know why you wnat this so bad, I wanted one so bad I could taste it. I drove a friends mustang that had a nice short throw shifter with the adjustable stops. Felt really nice. E-mail me: jberry@citynet.net We'll talk further.
