Cool

13.5 to 14 with freeway 60/ city 40. The truck is stock. I don't punch it from lights, but I do frequently wind it out merging onto the freeway. Freeway speeds are usually 70~75 mph. Towing a 3000 lb boat drops it to 11 or 12 but I mostly tow in drive. It's definately better in the summer with the better gas and short engine warm up times.

Thanks everyone. My second tank of gas with this truck now, this time more town driving, sitting & idling, I figured around 14 mpg. I am very happy with that since my 93 302 got 17 on highway but dipped closer to 10 in town.

4100 miles, and I'm up to 15.2 MPG, 50/50 mix, lead-foot. I know the highway mileage will go up no on the freeway with the tonneau, but I haven't checked it out yet.

Generally I get 13 mpg. When its cold 11-12 mpg and in 4HIGH I got 9.5 respectively. Best was 17 mpg into a headwind-interstate to Minneapolis, bought some ****ty TOTAL gas there and got 14 mpg interstate with a strong tailwind on the way back. Depends on the fuel too!

dl_shaw,
No, I did not recalibrate my speedo. I used this link to come up with a conversion, to figure out my mileage, speed, and odometer.http://www.coolfx.com/tirecalc/tire_calculator.htm
original tire 235/70/r16
new tire 285/75/r16
13.4% off

Ah, the old speedo re-calc trick. Very important If you want to get true mileage, a lot of people cheat themselves on the mileage when they put larger tires on because they don't add in them extra miles covered with the larger tires.

iacrow150, I got my best mileage burning 89 oct gas, I treated my ford to a drink of 92 oct on the return trip (same thing, I had nasty wind on the way down to Fargo, no wind on the way back) I got worse mileage with the 92 oct. I don't have a chip or anything so I guess the truck is probably set up to burn the 87-89 oct ???

It's really hard to listen to all these great miles per gallon stories when no one is qualifing their data.

Every one will get different mileage due to differences in rear axle gearing, tires and yes, wheels too, supercab (SC) vs reg cab vs screw, F-150 vs F-250LD (heavier frame), year of 5.4 ('97-'98 have less torque/hp), not to mention the various mods we all do.

Mine is an '98 F-250LD SC FQR 5.4, w/towpkg, 3.73 gears, stock tires/wheels (16x7-245/75)
Gibson, K&Nfipk, and a SuperChip!

Not matter what I do, I get 10.5 - 12 MPG... depending on my foot for that week and whether I slide in the 800lb FourWheelCamper. I'll bet if I actually tow something it won't even dent it.

Frank

dl_shaw Got 18.6mpg on all highway trip (191.5 miles,10.3 gal) last friday. I've noticed that 69mph is the magic number. Good gas mileage at or below 69. Go above and the mileage goes down. This trip was the first with the 285s, K&N, and Poweraid. This weekend the Gibson and Superchip go on.
