fuel line connector

I experienced a senior moment while changing out my fuel filter and forgot that I needed the special tool to release the springs inside the fuel line connector. I damaged the (garter?) spring inside the connector and had one heck of a time getting the fuel line off the filter. Anyway, I need to replace the connector spring at the very least.
The dealer tells me he doesn't show a replacement spring for my model year ('97), nor does he know of any fix short of replacing the entire fuel line. The springs that Pepboys carries do not match. (Mine looks like a wide, flat band with 3 or 4 tabs stamped out around the circumference.)
Has anyone had a similar problem with a '97 or later truck? I've read all the existing threads I could find.

Sorry, I haven't heard of anyone else who's had this problem. Sorry to hear you may be replacing the fuel line. Good luck.
