331 stroker kit
331 stroker kit
i just got a new prerunner setup on my truck now i want more power I was by the local mustang performance shop and they had a 331 stroker block fully assembled with the right cam and head setup this will produce 400hp. i have the 4.6 triton motor which is basically the same as the mustang gt. though my motor only produces 225hp. what would be the pros and cons of putting a mustang short block on my truck and would i have to change anything else besides the block or could i pretty much bolt everything else back on to the stroker short block.

That 331 you saw was a stroked 302 CI (5.0L) which they quit putting in mustangs in 1995. It has nothing in common with the 4.6L. The 331 is a common hi-po replacement for 78-95 mustangs. You'd have to change pretty much everything and then some more to get it to work.
Now you can get a stroked 4.6L to a 5.0L from sean hyland motorsports, but be prepared to sell the farm

You would have to address the rest of your drivetrain if you chose to add that much power... By the time you replace or at the very least build up your transmission, possibly the rearend, not to mention the little stuff like your driveshaft, wiring harness, the computer, motor mounts, etc. you would be looking at a lot of cash to drop into a used truck... Probably would be a lot more cost effective to just work with what you've got and do the basic power adding mods everyone else does. Good lookin' truck though...
Thanks guys I really appreciate the feed back, so would the best idea for more power be a head head and cam package my rearend is pretty solid there is a auburn locker in place and i have beafed up axles.
My recommendation for you is to go with a blower on your existing 4.6L. The ford OHC motors make great power with a blower. Ask some ? in the supercharger section. I think you'll find that for the increase that your looking for, getting a blower is the way to go
The stock 4.6L mustang puts out 260hp. You could get at least 290hp+ with a blower with a lot less work. To try and get the same HP increase from a naturally aspirated motor would cost alot more than the cost of a SC.
