Question oil on spark plugs

A few days ago, I was experiencing a rough idle, a rough ride, and my check engine light was flashing. I took it to a mechanic and he hooked it up to the reader and said cylinder #3 was misfiring so he replaced the plug and the wire.

The truck seems to be running fine now, however when he pulled the old plug out he said there was oil on it. Has anybody ever experienced this before? Could this mean oil is getting dumped into the cylinder?

It could mean you are getting some oil leaking past the piston rings and being deposited on your spark plug. Hope it is not a serious problem. Maybe you could have a compression test done on that cylinder.

I've got the same problem

on my 91 honda accord. Of course it has 240,000 miles on it. I have no idea what it could be but a guy at the shop said that I might be able to replace the sleeves for the spark holes. I still need to check into it but I only use it a few days a week to make some pocket cash delivering pizza.

A little oil on your spark plug is nothing to worry about. If it isnt smoking, then you should be good to go. A LOT of oil on your spark plug would mean your rings are not up to par. If your truck has less than 100k miles, then your rings should be ok, disregarding the fact of defective ring, obviously. Does your truck burn oil?

The truck currently has 85k miles on it. I don't think it is burning oil. The only think I have been noticing is the blackening of the rear wheel behind the exaust which I've been told is normal for the 97's and that blackening has been occuring for the past 40k miles.
