Thumbs up

According to Ford

320 hp @ 6,000 rpm
317 lb/ft @ 4,750 rpm

Now compare to 2000 CobraR
385 hp @ 6250 rpm
385 lbs.-ft. @ 4250 rpm

For your truck, you be better off going with a Lighting in a crate just for the torque. It may not look as pretty as the Cobra 4.6 does though. It does look good

You can see this at http://www.svt.ford.com/

Forget messing with that 4.6 Its overpriced just because its a Cobra engine. If you want a 4.6 go to this site and if I were you I would look under performance and see that for the same price you can get a 5.4 Lightning engine with the supercharger for the same price!! www.karkraft.com
Common sense to me but hey, to each his own right.

First, i'm assuming you mean the 2000 Cobra R? Havent seen where to buy one I am sure it is a lot of $$$.

Yes a 4.6 with a S/C will have slightly more power but that does not = go faster. After charging a 4.6 and giving it a cam that will work well with a truck, your up to about $8,000 on an engine not made specifically for a S/C.

The 5.4 Lightning comes with the right cam, a supercharger, and pistons designed to last a long time under boost, that leaves you $3500. With that get some bigger axles, 4.30 gears and some serious slicks. Still got money? Why not a little blue bottle? 100 shot should do.

You bring your 4.6 or at a higher cost, the 5.4R with a S/C and you'll get walked over all day long.

Everything you said was true but you were comparing apples to oranges.

the guys with the supercharger angle have the right idea. i think you want torque on the low end rather than horsepower on the top end

Put a s/c on it and will have more than enough power. It probably has the same amount if not more low end as a stock 4.6 has. I don't tow much so I'm not to worried about low end. Hell, I had a 95 with the 4.9 and 5 speed. It towed a 1500lb camper up to Prince Rupert, BC all the way from Seattle with no problem going through the mountains. And it had 2.73 gears. If you want to turn this into a b!tch session be my guest.

Wonder what was edited? Wasn't intending it to be a bitch session nor do i intend to make it such, just a little information is all.

1: If you have a lightning then yes, you do have "forged pistons and *****"
along with stronger wrist pins.

2: You're right, the 00 R does have froged pistons and all the goodies.

3: An S/C on it would indeed be a lot of power, if they make one, I am not sure.

4: I understand that you dont tow much but you are forgetting that you have over 1500 pounds on a Cobra R, you will need all the torque the S/C supplies just to take off at the same speed as the L. Then a new transmission because the R only has a 6 speed manual.

5: And finally, yes you did tow it with no problems with your gears. But rear end gear means nothing if you cant compare it to a tranny, you put the R tranny in, you'll need 4.56 gears at least just to get to 6th pulling the same weight.

Possible? YES! But at a very extreme cost, for the engine tranny and S/C alone you could build a nice 408 stroker that will give you well over 500HP without a power adder.

Again, I thought you wanted an opinion, the info was free.
