replacement engine due to piston slap
I may have a opportunity to have my engine replaced due to the knocking sound (Piston Slap) it generates during the first few minutes of startup. I'm trying to determine before I pursue this issue much further if the ones of you who have had the engine replacement are happy or not with these replacement engines. Also I am curious how these engines compare to the originals in durability, gas mileage, and overall power. Lastly are these engines having the same problems. Please provide any experiences you can on this issue.
Yeah Rick99, it started doing it at around 10,000 miles. I switched to Mobile One synthetic and believe it or not the noise went away. Now I have just over 40,000 miles and just started again and its louder than ever. It starts at start up and last around 1-3 minutes. My dealer so far seems to be working with me on the issue i'm just not sure what type outcome some of you guys have had with the replacement engines. I hate to have them tear through my truck and have nothing better than what I have now.
WLF, did you ever have your engine replaced or do you still have your original? I was just curious if we ment a new engine or your original engine.
thanks,

Slapper...
Mine slaps intermittantly on start up. It is within the first 30-40 seconds. Had the same problem before. Try a Purolator Pure One oil filter next oil change. This is the filter that comes from the factory, but has Motorcraft on it.
Or, you can even run a Motorcraft filter, to see if it goes away. FORD's are funny this way...

Unfortunaly i'm already using the motorcraft filter or that would be a good route to take. Thanks for the input though!
