Help with piston slap??
First my truck is a 1999 F-150 5.4L 25,000 miles on it, and I know I just opened up a can of worms on this, but I need some more info!! I am going to drop my truck off at the dealership next week to try and get them to diagnose the problem. I am just wondering how long it took the rest of you to have the problem diagnosed by dealership and fixed?? How hard was it to convince them that there was something wrong?? The dealership that I am taking it to has never had anyproblems like this. I have the right oil filter(Ford type S) so I know it isnt that. What else could it if it isnt piston slap?? The sound seems to be coming from uderneth the truck. With the hood up you can barely hear it at all. It is a rattling/sometimes knocking sound. goes away after warms up and doesnt do it again all day!!! The temp doesnt really matter, as long as the motor is cooled off. Could it also be my converters?? Sorry for the length and if FORD is monitoring this web site, THEN FIX THE DARN THING!!! Thanks!

Hey therock, asking about piston slap is about the biggest issue on this board. Do a search, which will probably take you hours to complete, due to the # of complaints on this.
If your dealer has never heard of this, he's either BS you or smoking dope.

No dope smoking here. The dealership swears they have never heard of this. i agree they maybe BS me, we will see. I have done some searching on the site, just want others feed back!! Thanks

my dealership didnt give me any problems
i just showed up to see what they were going to do after a few days and they said they already ordered a replacement motor
but they suck up to the VIP members and are striving for tha blue oval
