More on not so super "Super Cooling" package
Hey all-
Well, sure enough, my '01 4.6 auto with
Class III has the wimpy 1.02 radiator. I
contacted the service manager at Fuller
Ford in San Diego and was pleasantly
suprised! He advised me of the following:
1. Quite a few 4.6's have this (so go check!)
2. Ford is now approving all misbuild
claims as long as they originate from
the selling dealer and occur a reasonable
amount of time from the sale (???)
3. The package requirement is 2.02", NOT
the 1.47". Don't get bamboozled.
4. If you don't want the radiator, Ford
will cut you a check for the difference.
5. Ford has stated that WHILE they will
honor all requests of package holders,
nevertheless, the 1.02" is adequate.
** THEN WHY THE HELL DO THEY EVEN HAVE
A G$%#d*&! 2.02" RADIATOR?!?!? ***
I know radiators, and a double row is one
heck of a lot better than one, and MUCH
nicer on your water pump bearings.
Apparantly, dealers have to eat this if the
"reasonable" time period expires. Then, it
goes dealer by dealer. I called 5 or 6 Ford
dealers in San Diego, and got 2 positives
and 4 or 5 "hell no!'s".
2001 Ford 4.6 auto supercab. 3.55 LS, CL III,
heavy payload, alloys, prem sound.
MODS: Flow 40 series, K+N intake, bug shield
SOON: Superchip, steps, push bumpers + 3"lift

Palerider,
This issue has been going on for months now. First of all, if you have a 2001 model F150, the specs call for a 1.42" single core(not 1.47). The 2.02" two row was for 2000 and earlier models. Check out this link for the specs.

Stay on top of it. I got mine replaced with the correct 1.42" radiator last week.

Have the same problem with my 2000 F-150
4.6 My dealer assured me that if I had the wrong rad they would go ahead and swap it out. Well after leaving them my truck for the day I get it back only to find they sliped the same type of rad back in and left out a few fan shroud bolts as well (like I wouldnt notice the 1" core). This really sucks!!! After taking it back and pointing out the poor work they had performed I was assured once more that I would get the right rad the following week. This is bad.
I just picked-up my 2001 SuperCrew. It has the class III towing package. I'm not a mechanical genius so I have a question. When I open up the hood I see one row of coils 1 inch wide. About 2 inches in front of that I see another row of coils about 1 inch wide.
Do I have the 2 row , 2.02 inch radiator? If so, is that a bad thing?

Pudidog,
I just posted some pics of my radiator here.

In the first pic at the bottom there are raditor-looking fins. These are for the A/C.
I hope this helps.

Pudidog, the row of coils towards the front of the truck that you can see when looking in from the front grill are for the A/C core.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have the 2.2" 2 row rad, my dealer replaced my 1" with the bigger one even though the spec for the 2001 calls for the 1.42".
