Post K&N FIPK Whistle HELP!

Question,
I installed my K&N FIPK a couple of days ago,
I here a whistle sound when near an idle and way more prevalent when the engine is cold.
I hear it also driving with the drivers window open when I back off on the throttle.
Anyone else have the same sounds ?
I have checked all fittings and all seems ok ?
Here are some pictures

Most if not everybody's k&n does that. Mine does it also. I personally like it. Most likely it isn't a leak.

Mine "whistles" too. I believe that it's nothing more than the engine vacuum that you can hear through the much less obstructed intake system. I wouldn't worry about it if you checked all your connections and they're on right.
Mine even "whistles" a little louder now that I tweaked my throttle body ever so slightly !

Thanks for the replies. Yes I some what agree that this is normal. Having said that I, I was wondering about rotating the MASS airflow senser say 90 degrees. The reason I was going to try this is that the whistle/vacum noise i hear is coming (apears) from the filter area and turning the MASS 90 degrees would put it closer to the orginal position i.e. have the electric conection point down, Right now I have it pointing forward. any other ideas?

Same here. I disassembled everything and checked the connections, but I still have it. Doesn't bother me as much as before, expecially with the windows rolled down in the summertime.

The K&N instructions tell you how to deal with the whistle on the 4.6 liter engine. If I remember correctly it involves trimming off some of the intake tube near the throttle body. Just refer back to the instructions and you should find it. I have the 5.4 liter and mine has never had a whistle.

Snyper,
Yes I might review the instructions for the 4.6 as you said, mine is a 5.4 so those really shouldn't be relevent to my engine, but hey anything is possible. Before i do that I am calling K&N about it though.

Question

I have an Airforce One which showed the MASS airflow sensor installed 90 degrees from your installation. (Connection on the bottom). I have no whistle but I do wonder what is the correct position for the MASS ? It can't just be any position. Anyone know?
I have the same airfilter. A whistle has GOT to be an air leak. How about the other sensor that used to be facing the engine?

Redex,
Well I just tried rotating the Mass airflow sensor. It made no difference. But here is what happened I drove around for about 15 mins engine was well up in its normal temp range and the air noise was still there, kinda like a tire leaking noise. Anyway it kept makeing the noise, i then drove home and rotated the MASS back to its position that I orginally had it (like the photo) I thn started it up and NO noise I drove around and still no noise other than a little whoosh when I back off on the throttle to slow down. Well I have to believe that it is tempurature related ? and shutting down the truck and restarting it had some thing to do with it as well.
I don't know but I have to resolve this as it is driving me nuts !

If it doesn't start making noise again then it was probably a small leak at the hose where you rotated the MASS. A vacuum leak can be very stubborn. The slightest bad fit or the hose clamp not tightened against a smooth surface will cause a whistle. I used to do pipefitting and there was an old saying that it was easier to get a leak on a vacuum line then a pressure line but nobody would see it . There is a high degree of vacuum on a the tube.
I recheck my clamps once a week half expecting trouble.

I had the same concern on my 4.6L.First make your tubes as short as possible. If that doesn't work(it should),remove your idle air bypass valve and clean it thoroughly with a carb cleaner.I replaced mine and have not had anymore noise at all.It seemed that if I goosed the throttle the noise would go away.Good luck.
