The rad I had installed was a YL3Z-8005-GA. This is the 1.42". what I had on the truck was a XL3H-8005-DA(1.02"). A 5.4 on the lot had a YL3H-8005-GA and the standard offering should have been a YL3H-8005-DA (1.02").
I think that the first letter is application X=4.6 and Y= 5.4. I will try to find out more.

Mine has the XL3H-AB! Damn them! This seems to me like serious recall material - people will be out there overheating trucks while towing due to incorrect radiators being installed. Just made an appt. for the 15th, the person I spoke to on the phone was confused when I told her the truck has the wrong radiator in it... @#%^*...

If anyone from Ford is listening here, this is a serious liability issue - you have sold trucks with inadequate cooling capacity for their stated purpose. More importantly, it's also an honesty and fair-treatment-of-customers issue - Ford sold trucks of a particular specification, people paid extra for these parts, and if the trucks were not delivered as specified, Ford needs to fix this problem now.

Another XL3H-AB! Rest of equipment seems right. I tow very little, but living in Florida was main reason for wanting the heavy duty cooling. This will be a battle to get corrected.

Mine is scheduled to be built the week of
3-12. I'm hoping like hell that word of this debacle has filtered down to the Ford assembly lines and this matter is taken care of at the source of the problem. Well, I can dream can't I?

Checked mine today, can't even find the part number. Is it on the black end cap or the silver core? How far down on the radiator and did you have to remove anything to see it? I did see about 6 letters on the left side of the black end cap 1/4 of the way down, not close to anything anyone posted here.

I took my 2001 F-150 back to my dealer yesterday. I told them I had the wrong radiator for the tow package. I have the xl3h-ab 1.02 radiator. They told me I have the right radiator. Then I pulled out the page of specs from the Ford 2001 Source Book. They changed their tune. We couldn't find one on their lot that had the correct radiator. They all had the 1.02. Didn't make any difference if they had the tow package or not. They are checking with Ford on Monday. I'll let you know what they say.

Question

Chalk up another wrong size rad. 99 sc 4x4 w/5.4l. Ill take it to the shop this week. I did trailer 4 atv's ,6 treestands, and acouple coolers of deer and beer to Ohio htru the mountains last Nov. No problems. Did a hog hunt trip to FLA. with same stuff and no problems that I know of?! Should I mess with it, as having the correct rad installed? "If it aint broke - don't mess with it!" I know they owe me for what Im paying for, but dont want them to mess up anything else! I also got the "door crack" sometime this week!!! That really looks ugly.

Hey Bryan, yep I am from the big town of Oxford LOL, I really don't hunt, but there are plenty of Turkeys here, I see them all the time. I mostly fish, but with school (College) and a part time job it doesn't leave too much time for that, and most weekends I'm riding horses, so the fishing has to come during the week, it's a little better in the summer however. Pink Hill NC is the home of Double D trailers right? I was in contact with them one time about buying a horse trailer.

Well, I have the wrong radiator also, 1.02 inch standard one. I towed all last summer without any problems with heating, but the fact is that I don't have the radiator that I payed for. Now the question is do I try and get a 2.02 inch 2 core radiator or the 1.42 inch single core. The 2000 source book says 2.02 2 core. Either way I ain't keepin the 1.02 inch and I ain't payin for nothin either. I am going to try and go to the dealer one day next week.

Well the new radiator was installed, and I did my own investigation, heres what I
found.
Keep in mind all radiators have the same dimentions:

545 sq inch frontal area
17.07" height
33.88" wide
all single core

now for the fun stuff:

2000 and 2001

engine/ trans/ rad thick/ fins/per inch/
4.2 all 1.02" 13.97
4.2AutoW/air& super cool 1.02 16.50

4.6 all 1.02" 13.97
4.6 W SC all 1.42" 15.24

5.4 auto 1.02" 16.50
5.4 W SC auto 1.42" 15.24

it seems that mine along with others got a up graded radiator, the 1.02" with the
16.50 fins instead of the 13.97 fin, It's still the wrong one unless you have a 4.2.The
fact is if you have HD cooling or a class III towing package you should have a 1.42"
single core radiator, if you don't I would b!tch. I did and got mine replaced right to
Fords own spec's.
The part number I recieved was YL3Z-8005-GA,(replaced XL3H-8005-DA) they
ordered a YL3H-8005-GA, the latter was taken off a 2 core on the lot, it seems that
this was also some kind of mistake and that # comes back to a single core as listed
above. well I hope this clears the air, and for some it just may mean a trip back to
the dealer, let the battles begin!!
