lightning engine
i've been looking to buy a lightning motor for my 97 f150 reg cab flar side......i have the 4.6L and 4r70w tranny....first i'm wondering if 4500 is a good price for a bran new 01 L motor from inlet to oil pan....second will this engine fit in my truck? and what will i need to change like computer? and things i don't know about lol....and will it hook up to my trann? any advice/sugestions would be helpfull.... thanks in advance
have you tried doing a search? theres a couple of people who have asked similar questions before. let me warn you, an engine swap nowadays with these computer-controlled cars is no easy or cheap task. but yes it is possible and the engine will fit. it should bolt up to your tranny, but lightnings come stock with the 4r100 tranny (tougher than the 4r70).
It can be done, one guy on here had the engine in there and was working on the wires and fuel but never heard anything back from him.
Yes that is a good price for an L engine but it's gonna take a lot more than that. You will need L motor, L tranny (4r100) or a race ready 4R70W, complete wire harness's, a 9.75 rear end or built 8.8 and the ECM with a custom chip. Not to metion all the little stuff likes hoses, wires, cables,, etc.
IMO you would be better off rebuilding your 4.6 and maybe adding a blower to it. I'm sure with the dame amount of money you can a very seriously fast truck.
