Rough Idle question... tech help needed...
Rough Idle question... tech help needed...
Hey guys...
Well, yesterday ole Jaz picked up a rough idle. Tonight I took out my PCM and cleaned the contacts for the Superchip and even tried it without the chip to no avail. I checked all my vacuum lines and confirmed they're all tight. I've limited it down to three things:
1. EGR tube problems. I had to replace the tube when I bought headers because the old one broke. The new one has been leaking around the ends. In an effort to correct this, I loosened the EGR valve and lost the new gasket in the depths of the engine valley. The old one is worn out, and I have a feeling it's leaking too.
2. Bad IAC valve. This is probably not the cause since there is still a hint of hesitation at all RPMs.
3. Bad TPS sensor. I don't have a multimeter, so I can't test the unit or the wiring harness.
Any $.02 would be greatly appreciated.

Its pretty hard to give you an answer without seeing the truck. Are you sure that the pcv tube elbow way way in the back of the intake hasnt got a hole in it? It will be kinda gooey and collapsed and sucking air if it is. Other than that it could be a lot of things like if you never had the a/c drain tube installed and the condensate has been dripping on O2 1-1 .
Check your vacuum lines at the main manifold behind the battery box. I had good solid vacuum connections everywhere I checked, still had a rough idle. Another eventual problem led me to find that the lines on the main manifold tree had numerous small holes in them. Spliced in new vacuum lines and all my problems including rough idle went away.
If that doesn't help I have found that the wires and plugs are culprits.
Also Os sensors. Unfortunately there is no easy way to check them without equipment and at $75 a pop I wouldn't just change them all to experiment.
Good luck

Found the problem... PCV valve on bank 1 worked it's way out of the hole. I must have loosened it by accident when I was working on my truck last week. Thanks for the help guys.
