Question engine longevity

I'm just curious as to the amount of miles I could look forward to getting out of an F-150 with the 4.6L V-8 150,000/200,000?

"Life is like a box o' chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get!" (sorry...couldn't resist)

The level of maintenance and the way you drive makes all the difference in the world. If you take good care of it and don't beat it, you should get at least 200k.

Smile RE: Engine Life

My truck is a 1998 F150 with the 4.6, and it has 120,000 on it, and still runs like new. i just had the trans servived, and the cooling system serviced. I looked at a 1997 F150 with 220,000 miles on it, and it still ran good, just smoked a little at startup, and had a little rough idle.

Cool

Provided it gets decent serivice during its life, 200k shouldn't be any problem at all. Check out my sig if you have questions.

97 4.6 here with 141,000 and no major problems (knock on wood). I did replace the EGR valve and the EGR position sensor, other than that it's bee nnormal stuff (ie: plugs, wires, brakes, bearings, shocks, balljoints).
I bought mine with 86K on it and I have taken really good care of it but I have been known to step on it a little. I usually like to do a aggressive takeoff once a day. This helps to keep it cleared out, teach the ECM an aggressive driving style, and me to check for any higher RPM problems.
I'm not going to lie, it's at the mileage I would prefer to get rid of it before I do have lots of problems. It still runs plenty strong and hope for plenty more miles. Ive heard of dozen's getting 150K plus with no problems. A couple with more than 200K, let's see a Chevy do that.

They use the 4.6 in all crown vic police cars. I would say they see more abuse than a caring owner will ever do to his truck. I know for a fact that the engine is not the weakest link(trans is) that is if the gas tank doens't blow up first.

200,000+ should be a piece of cake. Use good oil and filters.
