Here is what I did. Should cost less than $50.00. I already had the K&N filter.

The filters aren't interchangable. Sorry. I sold my filter to a friends dad who just wanted a filter cheap.

Question Airbox mod's PLEASE HELP!!!

I have the K&N filter installed into the factory airbox. I have also tried the poor man's FIPK that is listed in the tech articles section of this site. Where you remove part of the airbox and install the K7N exposed into the engine compartment. I switched back to see if I can notice any difference. Has anyone else tried this and did they get any results? Is it harmful? Is there a way to direct cool air from the fender opening towards the exposed filter or should I just bite the bullet and buy a FIPK?

One last thing....does the K&N filter that drops into the factory airbox work with either the K&N FIPK or the AIR Raid or Air Force systems...Would hate to waste the $50 bucks! When gas is $2.00 a gallon...I need every dime I can get for my 50 mile a day hike to work.

Wink

don't waste your $ on an fipk! i already did(notice my sig). what i did cost me virtually nothing, looks great and has more benifits than any FIPK! Simply remove the silencer from the end of your air box. Cut a piece of 3" pvc long enough to go into the fender. dremel or file both ends to get a good fit onto the air box and most importantly into the fender(it doesn't have to be perfect). sand and paint the plastic if desired. this is the good part... use an inner tube or vulcanized rubber roofing material to wedge into any air gaps. some quality glue may be needed. trust me, if you do it right it looks good and works even better. you get the benefit of cold air and a larger intake opening. unlike an fipk it will equal more noticable power across the ENTIRE rpm range, better milage and best of all it won't cost you more than $10. it has no detrimental effects.

good luck and enjoy!

Thumbs up

I agree with Matt90GT & white elepahnt. These two very simlar solutions are a much better alernative to the FIPK. You get the cold air intke, it's cheaper, & you don't have to worry about the the stupid filter falling off the FIPK like some people.

i did a mod on my '93 Taurus SHO very similar to this and it works excellent.
