re-beat a dead horse (EGR help needed)

i've read through the majority of these posts and have gotten some really good info, but i cannot seem to idenfity where or what the EGR valve is or looks like. i've got all the symptoms of a bad or dirty one, and want to clean or replace it. i've found a valve/sensor that looks like a flying saucer located to the left rear of the intake that has a feed line to the exhaust manifold (my first guess), there's another that looks like a mini pop can on the top/left side of the intake and throttle body. which is which and how do you suggest replacing it. i've got a '98 4.6. i have the tools and the time, but i'm not gonna rip it apart if i don't have to. as always, thanks for any help.

<flying saucer and mini pop can was the best i could do today....

i thought i put this under the EGR Trouble post on Page 2....
