Question Need help PLEASE today, Is this a good deal 1999 XLT for 1999 Lariat...

Ok heres the deal, I now have a 99 F150 XLT reg cab., step side short box 4x4 loaded w/ ARE tonnaue cover,cd,pw,pl,pm,cruise, cab steps, rear slider 4.6 v8 w/ 3:55 rears 2" radiator, tow pkg. w/ 9300 miles and 2 years of factory warranty left.
now heres the truck the dealer has: 1999 f150 4x4 short box Lariat EXT CAB loaded with 5.4 v8 and 3:73 rears, with 19,000 miles and all the same goodies i got with a little over a year of factory warranty left. He wants $4000.00 plus mine and will not go lower. Now is this a good deal or not. I feel I would only be gaining the ext cab whichI dont have kids and probably will not use that much truthfully but I do like the ride and looks of it.The 5.4 runs nice and is dry doesnt appear to have any oil leaks and the body is good. what do you guys think ???? Thanks for the help. Oh one other thing i noticed that the rear seats do not fold up rather they flip down so in other words the part you would sit on flips toward the fron of the truck not up towards the rear,is this normal ?

Hmmm. My perspective from the outside, (without the "I wants") is that you're thinking about trading a perfectly good truck that has 2 years' warranty left, for one that has a "little over a year", double the miles (a minor point at 19,000; but it's a blue book number nevertheless), for an additional cost of 4 grand; you probably won't use the x cab much, but you like the looks. From everything I've read, you're gonna lose somewhere between 2-3/4 mpg on the trade-up to the 5.4. Gas prices are rising soon, when the summer really gets here. I'm not trying to flame you. Them's the facts as I see them. How much do you need the increased torque and HP? You can do a lot to your truck for 4 grand.

For what it's worth, I doubt fuel economy will change that much. Really in my experience the 5.4 get better mileage than the 4.6. Mine gets 15-16mpg. My dad gets 13-14mpg w/ his truck that is basically the same other than the 4.6, and I have the lead foot of the family.

Rangerr91, go to a site like www.kbb.com, www.edmunds.com, or carpoint.com. They all will give you a reasonable estimate of what your truck is worth, and what the other truck is worth.

It really comes down to which one you would rather have. I think that it is a pretty fair deal. You might want to consider buying from an individual.

The rear seat folding down is normal on models through 99 (I think?). Anyways, some like it better this way, others like the seats that fold up. Personally, I like the fold down seats. They make a nice cargo loading surface when folded down, and the dog kennel fits pretty nice in the extended cab - and the front seat can still go back a little bit, where it can't witht he fold ups (been there, done that) Good luck in your decision...

Cool

My canadian black book for may 2001, states that a clean truck like yours is worth exactly 4k less than a clean lariat scab.

Personally, i think 4k USD is a bit lofty, but the dealer will no doubt try to make some gross off both trucks.

I'd say for a truck that has a couple more options and has the 5.4, about 3k would be reasonable.
But as stated, it's all about what you 'really' want to drive.

Keep shopping...shoot for a 2000 or an 01. No sence trading a perfectly good truck for one of the same year with double the miles, IMO.

Hey man the truck sounds clean and if you like the looks go for it. Also the extended cab may not be much to some but it sure is nice and for and extra 4 grand I would go with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears you should notice alot of difference. Anyways man it is your choice, so whatever you do post some pics of the truck you deside to stick with. Later Joe D.

I would try and use the extra mileage as a negotiating point in the deal. I have a 99 XLT that has 35,310 miles on it, and it's in the shop right now for the last warranty work that will be performed on it! The truck is only two years old (was bought as a left over 99)and I would love to have had an additional year of warranty coverage for it. It's been a great truck, and I don't anticipate any major problems, I just like the security of knowing the warranty is there just in case. As for gas mileage, they really vary from truck to truck. I have the 4.6L and average 15 City, 17 Highway. The Lariat Supercab is a heavier truck with a heavier engine than your current truck, so even if the 5.4 did get better mileage than the 4.6, the additional weight may absorb any savings. The flip down seats were discontinued with the introduction of the 2000 model year. This was a major contributing factor in my purchase of the left over 99! I actually had a 2000 model on order and cancelled it due to the change in the rear seat configuration. I really like the flip forward design, it gives more room and a flat sturdy platform to haul stuff inside the truck. My seats are flipped more than they are seats, and I have hauled far more gear than I have people behind my front seats! The Super Cab also has a longer wheelbase which equates to a smoother ride. Personally (my opinion only) I would not own a standard cab pickup truck. I just enjoy the versitility of the added space behind the front seats. I guess my only hesitation with the deal you're looking at is the additional miles on the Lariat. If all else were equal, I'd be all over it! Hope this helps muddy the waters...
