Thanks for the update, Tenderpaw. I'll have to get my wife to keep tabs on this since she drives our Expy most of the time.

Yep, the heat, extreme heat especially like in traffic in 100 degree weather kills these things. Once I installed my Airaid, it did get quite a bit better but if I sit in traffic in heat, it doesn't want to move like it should until I get moving a little. Again, opening up the intake made a big difference.
FamilyRide,

I thought having a FIPK actually lost low end torque at high temperatures? I used to have on in a TransAm I owned before I bought my truck, and in the heat of the summer it didn't run anywhere near aswell as stock on the low end with the FIPK.

A TSB came out last month regarding "high temp effects". The dealers install a program revision into the computer. The one thing I'm not sure of is if the new program will be effective with the addition of a SuperChip.

Sorry it took so long to see this.

I'm not sure but my take is that it can pull more air compensating for the hot less dense air. Witht eh OE box, the air is still hot but the OEM box can only pull so much air. With an FIPK, the air is still hot, but it can pull a lot more air, thereby getting more air. So it's not getting more dense air, just more air to breath a little easier.

Just my thought, nothing scientific.

TSB High Temp Effects

Hey Area 52, do you have any more details on that TSB. I'm still having my high temp issues. Temps over 94-95, its a dog, but not all the time. Of course, it won't do it for the dealer.

Sorry Tenderpaw...no more details on the TSB.

However, there are a couple of people on this site who have had it done. I tried doing a search for you to find out who, but was unsuccessful.

As for the symptoms, the dealer doesn't really need to feel or see this symptom...just tell them to reprogram it under the TSB that came out in June/July, 2002.

You might contact Ford's consumer hotline to get the info on the TSB.
