? on Rebuilding a 2 BL Motorcraft Caburator
I need to rebuild my 2 BL carb for my 85 f150 351W because it is dumping gas at idle. My immissions are way off and would like some tips on rebuilding. I heard that NAPA auto has a very good kit (around$60) and Auotozone has one @ $20. Is their different qualities in different kits??
Should I also change the float too and any other items I should look at to change?
Any helpful tip would be appreciated !

60 bucks is way too much for a carb rebuild kit, especially for a 2bbl.
You probably have a bad floater or valve. The valve could be worn or stuck. You won't know until you get into it. The kit will definitely have a new valve, but I don't recall if they all come with new floaters.

Hey rpc625 these carbs are pretty staight foward the $60 kit probably is complete with float and the works. You really won't need the float if you check your old one and make sure it doen't have fuel inside it, replace the float valve and you should be fine other than that clean the carb and blow out all passages with cleaner and compressed air.
Good luck
Good luck
Kingwc is right - the $60 kit is probably complete. I have rebuilt 2 & 4 bbl carbs - it's not difficult but it's a nuisance when you add in the downtime for the vehicle & the time for the rebuild. If you have any doubts about the float then replace it, otherwise you stand the CHANCE that you'll get it reassembled & find the float is still the problem. Basically do as complete a rebuild as possible. I'd see if you can buy the float seperately & see how much they are. The $20 kit plus the float may still be cheaper then the $60 kit. Have them tell you what's in each before you buy - I doubt they can be returned once you open them. One last caution - if you've never rebuilt a carb, watch for all the little clips & the check ball & make sure you see where it came from - the diagrams are not always very explicit! Good luck!
