The thread is so confusing because of me. I essentially thought it was the "manual tranny version" (cluster gears and whatnot) of 4x4 system we had, when in reality it was the "automatic tranny version" (planetary gears and whatnot).
Basically apples and oranges. And I am still confused as to why it was changed.
