Wink check engne light, black smoke, miss firing, trans acting up EASY FIX!!

My check engine light came on and the engine seemed to be running weak or missing a little. I kept driving. Next my truck hard started when parked with the engine facing downhill. I kept driving. Then on the way to the fishing hole while making a left hand turn the engine suddenly lost 1/3 power and began blowing black smoke out the tail pipes. Yes I kept driving. Lastly at the boat ramp the trans would not pull out in drive had to drop it in low 1 to move. Now I decided it was time to take it to the dealer but first I should remove the Chip. I removed the battery and to my surprise behind the battery tray towards the firewall low on the fender I found what looked like a connection for vaccum lines. 3 out of 4 on one side of the rubber connection where pulled out or broken off. I just hooked them back up and used a little electrical tape to hold them and PROBLEMS SOLVED!! now I'm not saying that this might be your problem with rough idle , black smoke , weak performance , trans problems ,ect.. but it's worth a look if your having these symtoms.

My truck had been sitting at the airport for five days. As I was driving home on the Houston freeway, the check engine light came on. The guages all looked good so I kept driving. Called my service man on the cell phone and told him I was bring it in. He said he'd have a loaner waiting, and he did.
Next day he called. He said the mechanic had spent an hour and a half tracing the code (Po455- gross Veap leak) and it turned out to be a bad gas cap! The cap was $17 and the labor was almost $200! I have the ESP and he said that the gas cap was not covered so the diagnostic and labor was not covered either. I asked him to check that again because my son's Probe had a similar problem last summer (gas cap) and it was covered under his ESP. The service rep called me back within half an hour and said, yes the cap and all the labor was covered.
I went ahead and had them do fuel injector clean out and service the throttle body, as well as a full 30,000 mile service. It's a sweet running thing now.
Back to the topic... a little vac hose or a cheap gas cap can cause a check engine light and a rough running engine.
