Engine just stalled

99 F-150 5.4 auto /super chip 45,000mi.
12:00 pm warm day pulled out into traffic, about 5min. or less engine just stopped and I pulled over. All the dash lights were on and I cranked it over and over, not a puff. Sat there for 5min. and it started right up and ran fine.
What gives it's never given me any trouble before. And there was no warning, does anyone have any Ideas. Thanks

my question for Mike or whoever is if the superchips are so badass and easy to install then why are there alot of threads with ppl having connection issues, causing their truck to die etc. Are they just installing them incorrectly or do the chips come loose. Does this happen with other chips?

Thanks for the info. on the chips, the shop I took it to claims it's the fuel pump.
We'll see, I have had trouble in the past with Ford fuel pumps.

Exclamation SuperChips

I just had the same thing happen yesterday on my F-150 SuperCrew 5.4L. I've had my SuperChip installed since Mar without a problem. Yesterday I was basically coasting down a hill and everything went off. The only way to start was to recycle the key all the way to off and back to on. The truck ran just fine after that. I called my dealer and they said the same thing.......It's the fuel pump.

It happened a second time before I got it in. They looked up a TSB and then went to the computer and found my SuperChip. They blamed it on my chip and had to download the correct program for the truck after removing the chip.

I had my chip professionally installed by a Ford Motorsport dealer here in the local area. They do the same thing for many F-150s and Mustangs. It was the first thing I checked when it happened the first time. It was just as secure as the day it was installed. I'm not totally confident that it was the chip.

What was the outcome with your truck???

Had same situation. Had my superchip in a couple of months with no problems. Then a month ago it stalled once, then about two weeks ago, on my test drive after I had lowered (2/2) my 99' supercab flareside 4.6, it stalled twice within 10 miles of each incident.

I think one way to tell if it was your computer/chip is to see if your guage needle arms moved forward and backward with the anti-theft and or battery light flashing just before it stalled?

After asking for help and getting it, on this site, I did the following:

I checked everything. Nothing was "loose" or damaged, including the superchip (I even tape my superchip to the computer).

Just to be sure and cancel it out as a problem, I cleaned my battery post terminals and cables.

Pulled superchip. On the vehicle computer "plug-in" for the superchip, I had ONE contact out of 30 (15 on each side) that had the coating on it as well as I still had coating in between the contacts. Scraped the coating off without going down to the "copper" (like I should have the first time) and no more problems. A very bright light and a magnifying glass really makes a difference.

I just put 3700 miles on it within 7 days in harsh conditions with no problems.

Just remembered, there is a thread in which a guy states that he had his superchip installed by a professional installer. But, he ended up with the same problem of truck stalling because the vehicle computer chip "plug-in" was not cleaned of the coating properly.

If you go to the Aftermarket category, then the Computer Chips section, you will find a thread entitled, "installation problem?" by 20BiGyder02. It sounds like your situation.

Hope this helps.

*It is not the chip* Because of the way the PCM was built and assembled care must be taken to remove the coating applied to the contacts and area in between. Iron horse has been there as a number of others have. If you are going to do mods on your vehicle you need to find out where the feet grow. Old fart expression. Not knocking those who choose to have some one else do it for them but what happens when that person is out in the middle of nowhere and a malfunction occurs?
