Post New Chevy C3?? HOW WEAK!

From MotorTrend.com
-_____________________________________________
For starters, the C3 has the biggest engine in the class, the Vortec 6.0-liter V-8, upgraded to pump out 325 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. It is equipped with new aluminum cylinder heads, new cam profiles, a new exhaust system, and a three-piece noise-suppressing engine cover.
The big engine mounts to a heavy-duty 4L60-E automatic with a towing-and-hauling feature that provides higher upshift speeds, firmer gearchanges, and a 3.73:1 final drive that'll help you get across the intersection first every time. At the track, the 5000-pound C3 cranked out a 0-to-60 time of 7.8 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 16.0 seconds at 86 mph, which is plenty strong.

_____________________________________-------

You mean to tell me this thing cost $39k with a 6.0 V8 and it can only run a 7.8?? It's got 325hp! Hell, the 99 F150 5.4v8 with 265hp can run 0-60 in 7.8! Sounds like some Chevy enthusist are getting ready to get ripped off!

The only plus of this truck is the fact that it is all-wheel drive. But i seriously doubt anyone will be taking this thing off-roading much.

Hey just me get out of here this is a FORD website.I hate hearing the chevys come to this site and doubt are Fords. Let me guess you own a Ford but your a chevy guy??? There seems to be so many of those chevy guys with Fords. Why is that because they know Ford is built Ford Tough and chevy will be there when you break down. That is there saying "Well be there". They do have that stupid saying "Like a rock". Chevys Trucks are garbage.

I think "just me" is fairly accurate. A 60hp advantage for the C3 surely should have the 0-60 upper hand over a stock F-150. And with the $8,000(US) or $13,000(CDN) extra cost over the L, it surely isn't the best bang for the buck performance truck either.

I would like to see an AWD system installed in a Lightning in the future. And if there's any possibility of putting it on a diet to get the weight down, and possibly a IRS, it would definitely be a Cobra contender.

Wow! I for one like to see competitive information. Thank you LikeLinus!

I'm not sure the C3 is marketed as a "Race Truck" but it's good to see what's out there and what's new.

I would have hoped that the post would have spawned some competitive banter and not Chevy bashing and certainly not member bashing.

Hey he resorted to Ford bashing. Does chevy have a website like www.silverado.com with posts. I don't believe so because they wouldn't have enough room for all there problems. If you go to the Nhtsa website you will see how many silverados are lemons compared to Fords, not sure what website is but someone here must know. Alot of the lemons where silverados breaking down. How come Consumer reports gives The silverado a half black circle for realibily because they infact aren't very realiable. Ford gets all red circles except for braking and gas. All brands have problems but Ford are the most reliable trucks. And come on just me fords die when driving is a figment of your imagination. Drive a 93 f-150 with 210,000 miles now and still going runs great. Been beat the hell out of. Its a work truck. My father had a chevy 1987 305 worst truck he ever bought-engine problems, raditor problems, oil leaks, no power, sluggish. He had a 78 f-150 351c and loved it. There are 3 98 chevys k/1500 where I work that have 350 motor that are in the shop monthly for problems like fuel pumps, bad injectors, motor mounts broken, oil leaks, coolant leaks, exhaust leaks. Thats all I have to say. I don't bash chevy until I see a chevy guy bash Fords. I take take that offensively. What model of truck you own JUST ME????

Correct me if I am wrong. I have always felt that Chevy builds stronger and bigger engines with more horsepower than Ford. And that Ford focuses more on fine tuning of the engines for more available power from smaller engines (ie. the 3.8 V-8) and more lower end torque than Chevy. I feel that Chevy's engines sound more attractive, "big with horsepower", than Fords. But Ford focuses more on the practicality of the engine with the lower end torque and smoothness of the power. Just my observations. Any comments?

Hey Jburd I disagree with you. I have a 5.4L 2001. A co-worker of mine just bought brand new 5.3L 2001. All the guys at work were like vortech vs trition. So we raced I destroyed him off the line and after I reached about 80 shut it down. He did catch up but i still beat him by about 1 truck and half length. He was gaining but his peak numbers are at higher rpms so he had no chance. That 5.3L is rated at 285hp and 325lbs feet of torque. The 5.4L as you know 260 and 350. My numbers are at more usuable numbers lower rpms. The sohc is much more efficeint then the ohv due to its ability to produce greater airflow then ohv engine therefore its a better breathing engine and power is more efficent throught powerband. After I beat him we havent raced since. Are trucks are very similar in that he has regular cab 4X4 and I do to. His gvwr is 6400 and mine is 6300. I had to clear that up because the chevys guys would make some point about weight of vehicle so now they cant. Now I believe that 6.0L is not offered in 1500 models so can't be used to compare. I build/priced a chevy on there website 5.3L biggest engine in 1500. Don't quote me on this. Clearify if incorrect. 7.3L powerstroke is better engine than 6.6L. new chevy has advertised 50 more hp. The 6.8L v10 has 30hp less than 8.1L v8 and like 20lbs feet of torque more. Chevys new line of engine are not any better than Fords current engines. Ford trucks will always be on top. Numbers are not everything. When these trucks were dynoed in motor trend. The F-150 5.4L and 5.3L 1500 silverado, the ford had more hp dynoed and more torque. This just shows chevys numbers are not all that accurate. Look on there website and click articles fordvschevyvsdodge.

C3 a work truck? Are you sure this is the intended use of this truck? The only tv add I have seen for it has it driving around a racetrack.Makes me think it is being marketed for potential lightning owners and performance entusiasts. I could be wrong, it has happened before. Here is what a co worker (a die hard chevy man) was tellin me..A magazine took the C3, lightning and dodges fastes ram offering (do they make anything fast? oy ya they have a v-10) and the lightning won .it is still the fastest production truck. Why would it be tested as a performance truck if it is a work truck? i am not bashing it I like it and awd rules. Ford needs to start offering it in the lightning.

I'm very interested in this truck, however I can't afford the price either. I just like seeing all the neat stuff other manufacturers are coming up with. I like the idea of all wheel drive, and all the extra goodies it has. I've always wondered what would happen if the big three would put their heads together and build this super truck; I'd beat it would be awesome!

There is a lot more to this than AWD. Also, the AWD is not meant for off road. The whole purpose of this vehicle, is to be able to tow close to 9K lbs without the F250/350 ride and have luxury doing it. The AWD helps in bad weather and getting heavy boats up slick ramps.

I think you missed the whole purpose of this truck.

Personally, I think the C3 is one nice truck. It's nice to see GMC trying to get back into the performance scene. But the 39K price tag is way to much.

"Just me" You sound like an idiot. "Motortrend had wrong numbers and were given a truck with a smaller motor." I mean come on?? Yeah! I'm sure Chevy gave them a C3 to test with a smaller displacement engine! That'd be really smart of them! That's gotta be the stupidest thing ive heard in weeks. Way to go.
OK..just to prove my point...here is an Artical from USA today about the GMC C3 (same as the Chevy, obviously)

http://www.usatoday.com/money/columns/healey/0041.htm

In this artical it states that ""There was no chance to safely verify it, but GMC says the 5,000-pound-plus truck will hit 60 miles an hour from standstill in a bit more than eight seconds. That's quick enough to give you a rush of pleasure. A modern muscle car would do it in about six seconds, a family sedan in about 11.""

In over 8 seconds? By GMC's OWN WORDS?

AND

"Creaks and quibbles were hard to forgive on a $39,000 luxury pickup. "

"The interior, though well-furnished, is the Achilles' heel. Plastic trim in GM pickups tends toward lowbrow, and C3's splashes of fake dark wood can't fix that. The interior should be richer, to reinforce the claim that C3 is a luxury vehicle. At least the leather's nice, and main controls operate smoothly."

So the interior sucks? The performance sucks? Sure it can tow a little bit more weight, but most people aren't going to be towing 8,700 pounds!

As my original statement stands, GMC/Chevy are ripping people off with this truck. They ARE saying this is a "performace" truck, and it most certainly isn't.

_____________________________________________

on another note

http://www.edmunds.com/edweb/cook/si...rra.c3.fd.html

www.edmunds.com! REad this

"""Speaking of acceleration, the C3 moves out well for a 5013-pound truck. GMC's numbers show it getting to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds and covering the quarter-mile in 16.4 seconds at 86 mph. It's one of the quicker full-size trucks you can get despite its heft and you'd probably rule the roost until a Lightning squares up next to you at your neighborhood traffic light. ""

WOW, Just ME! Apparently everyone is getting C3's with smaller engines! GMC must be doing the right thing here, slipping smaller engines to all the test people and only giving the real ones to you! Way to go!

Amazing isnt it?
