Thumbs down Starter went out at 273xx

Hey, my starter went out. The problem was in the soleniod. The starter would not retract and the fly wheel ground off all the teeth. And did you know that Ford made 4 different starters to go on this engine? They could not order the part until they took the starter off and checked the part number. Always something I guess.

Maybe that's why my starter did not look like the one in the Chilton Maintenance Manual!

The starters on the F150's for the year 2000 are pretty bad. I just had mine replaced today and I was told that Ford is getting very close to recalling the starters because of the high amount of failure with them.

Mine did the exact same think clacking sound and a horribly weak start.

If you read my post about when I said it was going into the shop, I described that as the sympton and I could of sworn it was something serious. Luckily this starter isn't a problem that will hurt or injure anyone and is something that is easy to fix. It took the dealer a little of an afternoon and it wound up getting me to fixing the radiator problem and I had it all ordered.

I think we should get a list going and see just how many of us F150 owners have had a bad starter.
