Question Power Pulleys

If under drive pulleys are such a great mod(8-10 HP), why doesn't Ford spec them?

What are the downsides of the underdrive pulley system?

Poor cooling.

Under-charging.

It takes a given amount of water flow to cool an engine. Ford has determined what cooling is needed for the average engine in the average operation over an average life -- plus taken into account the average extremes to be expected.

By changing your pulley size, you're simply pushing your operating range away from that average calculated one.

Same thing for the alternator.

If you're one of those who will be spinning the engine faster than whatever that "average" person would -- then you can probably benefit from the slower speed of the alternator.

It's your call as to whether you're going to need more or less cooling than the average user.

Pretty average response, eh?
