Question 4.10's from Ford Racing

Hey guys,
I'm looking at a set of 4.10's from Ford Racing from an individual. As of right now, I don't know if they are the correct specs for a '97 F150 with a 8.8" 3.55 setup. Am I correct in saying that the F150 is a 31-spline axle and the Mustang unit is a 28-spline axle, even though they are both 8.8"? Also, what else will I need if this set comes only with the gearset, pinion nut, and crush collar? Will I still need new axle bearings, gaskets, etc.? If so, where can I get those from? Thanks for the help.

Oxford White/Prairie Tan Metallic
4.6 auto, 3.55
17" ORP wheels w/ 275/60R17 Goodyear Eagle GTII's
Extang soft tonneau cover
Kenwood 7003 CD head unit w/ remote, Sony 2x25W and Clarion 2x100W amps, Ultimate 10" pickup boxes
Powerdyne 6 psi supercharger, Autometer boost gauge

To come:
Ford Motorsports headers
Ford Motorsports 9mm plug wires w/ plugs?
Autometer fuel pressure gauge
Superchip
4.10 rear w/ 23-tooth speedo gear (gotta read right!)

Wishful thinking:
SVT 18" Lightning rims (painted Prairie Tan to match two-tone) w/ 285/55R18 Yokohama AVS's

you can buy an install kit from FRP or any other mail order place such as Summit etc...
Buying a master install kit will get you all bearings and ring gear bolts.I would do the bearings as cheap insurance since you dont want to go in there twice.
Definately do ring gear bolts as they are a one time use item.
Master kit will set you back around $80-90.00

jarrettruelz88,
Thanks for the info. I was just checking out your other toy. Sounds like you're into the older Fords, too. My toy is a '69 Mach 1 Mustang, 428CJ R-code (Shaker), 4-speed Toploader, and 9" 3.50 Traction-Lok. She still needs a lot of work to be original, but I've got nothing but time (if not enough funds). Anyway, thanks again and enjoy those Fords. Oh, and GO #6!!! (had to do that!)

Question

Hey again,
I'm still looking for a 23-tooth speedo gear for my '97 F150. The guy at the Ford place told me that a Mustang speedo gear (which Steeda carries) will not interchange with an F150. The highest Ford makes is a 21-tooth, for the F150. Can someone who has made the correction from 3.55 to 4.10 with a 23-tooth speedo gear please tell me where you found the gear? Will a Mustang gear work, even though Ford says it won't? I won't be putting the new gearset in for a little while, but when I do I want everything corrected. Thanks a bunch!
