Lightbulb Insulating HVAC hoses

Noticed how cold my freon hoses were when I checked the oil last fillup. Picked up a $5 RubaTex 3/4 " hose insulator at Lowes and used it to keep the freon and heater hoses protected from engine heat or lack of it when first starting truck in winter.

Won't know if it works till it heats up this summer. The RubaTex insulators have a self sealing strip, but you'll also want to wrap some electrical tape around the insulator to prevent them from coming loose.

We've had a 90 degree week and AC is cold, but it was cold before, so cannot tell if it's made any diference.

But, while I was insulating the HVAC hoses, I insulated the entire gas line down to the frame rail on the drivers side. I've had 3 fillups and mpg has been up to 18.0 (1/2 city/highway) on all three fillups from 17.43. I can't account for it, but wanted to wait to be sure. By the way I cut off a piece of the Rubatex and tried to burn it. Won't catch fire, seem to have alot of carbon black in it. Sure as sh** didn't want any material in the engine compartment that would turn it into a toaster oven.
