2000 F-150 Piston Slap???
I'm so furious about this problem it almost makes me sick. This truck was suppose to be my dream truck. I wanted to buy an F-150 exteneded cab for years now and was finally able to afford it this year. I'm so mad that I'm going to call the sales manager tomarrow and demand a new truck. I'm sure they will get a good laugh but what the heck you never know what they will say. I will not settle for a remanufactured engine so that is not an option for Ford. I bought a new truck and expect a new engine plain and simple.
Dogcam, thanks for the advise. I plan on documenting the whole ordeal from start to finish. The dealer was really helpful and I know its not their fault and they really can't do anything about this except make their recommendations to Ford. I'm meeting with the regional service engineer on 4/1/01 to discuss the options. It should get real interesting over the next couple of days.

PALongbow,
Keep us informed, so that other potential victims can maybe have hope. We are in need of a process for the piston slap. If you can document all your findings, and phone #'s to call etc... maybe this will help others with the same problem.
Id like to say thanks for what you are doing, it continues the thread, and informs others.
For Raoul and JMC,
Dont like the post,
Dont read it!
No need to waste your precious time trying to intimidate this new member. get a life.
My 4 cents on this matter.
Keep up the battle PALongbow.

Day one:
Ford dealership has been on the phone with Ford demanding to get a brand new engine and not a remanufactured. I was quite clear that I would not accept a remanufactured engine. Dealership is completely behind me and has been very helpful. I have been feeding them information that has been posted here on about others that are being screwed either by the dealer or Ford in general. Ford has been given two options by me, number one replace the PS engine with a new one or number two is give me a new 2001 F-150. My personal opinion is that either one is not a good option because Ford is obvisouly still having problems with 5.4 L engines and Piston Slap. However I will be completely satisfied with either option. Ford's choice right now is not been decided upon. I'll post back when I receive an answer.
Like I said in my earlier post. I bought a new truck and either expect a new engine or new truck. There is no other options that will be negotiated or offered. I'm an engineer by trade and this is an engineering design flaw that should be corrected and resolved.

Hey Tweaker, I think you're wound way too tight.
PALongbow posted on 3/23, it laid there three days with no response, he came back and asked for a response and I gave him my take on it.
Please explain to me where you got 'I don't like' his post and please explain to me where I 'intimidated' him.

Hey Guys
Is there a site where we can view a list of dealerships that are Blue Oval Certified?
This would be easier than calling and asking each of them since there are roughly 70 Ford dealers within 50 miles of me.

Clem, I can't help you on a list of BOC dealers, but check out their web
sites, if their BOC, they'll display it on the front page.
There's a big story on Ford and BOC dealers,Alot of dealers are trying to get BOC, but Ford has the "say" on it.
Like I said, it's a long story.
A NON-BOC dealer pays 1.5 % more on a vechicle, over a BOC dealer, this has created a nasty mess in the Ford ranks.
Murfster, I can't see you having PS,if it only does it on turning, you've got something binding up or a motor mount, even a exhaust that's loose ?? When I had my 00"Lemon," 1 of 3 of the alternators, siezed up and made the engine sound like a off key diesel..??

Ron, is your dealer Blue Oval Certified? If they are, they'll have certificates hanging all over, but make sure and ask...Glad the dealer is trying, some just don't give a Sh**, once your out the door..

I'm the customer and I gave them my two options by either giving me a brand new engine or providing me a new 2001 F-150. Any other option doesn't count. Customers need to be in charge. We pay big bucks for these vehicles and should not tolerate anything less for a problem that they can't seem to figure out. A remanufactured engine in a new 2000 truck should not even be considered by Ford. If they want me to buy another truck and provide them with customers, then they will have to prove that they want my business and keep my business as a happy Ford truck owner. The decision is up to Ford right now and they are accountable to the customer for this problem.

No dogcam they are not blue oval certified but they want to be. These guys are really great to deal with and so far they have not done me wrong. I talked with them this morning and they made it clear to the Ford engineers and who ever else they spoke with that they will not accept a remanufactured engine. Either way they said they would make it right. They told me not to contact anyone at Ford because they are going up the latter with this problem.
PaLongbow,
Hope everything works out for you. Be sure relay a heart-felt thanks and appreciation to this garage or dealership for me. Even though I have never been to this garage, I believe any dealerships/garages that puts the customer as No. 1, need and deserve all the thanks and appreciation they can get. I think dealerships like these are getting all to scarce these days.

dogcam: thanks for the info. I don't know what it is, but I do know diesel sounds. Listening to that .wav file did nothing for me. What was I listening for? The slight ticking? To me, that sounded like normal startup after sitting for awhile (oil starvation at the lifter...but if they are hydrolic...hmmm). I guess I'm not sensative to how a "normal" engine should sound.
I don't think I have the PS, but I do know I have a problem. It'll be at my local Ford service next week (too much work this week). Thanks for the information.

8K on my '00 5.4L and the engine sounds great. I sold my '99 Ranger that had the dreaded "marbles in a tin can" sound at idle. The noise started very early in the trucks life ... around 1.5K miles. Now that was bad. I've not heard of any '00 models with piston slap until now. I'd say the odds are in our favor.
Just for the record, last weekend I helped a friend install Bilstein shocks in his Tundra. He has close to 20K on his truck now and has had a number of problems. Warped rotors, defective idler pulley, a tapping noise from the top of the engine that sounds like valve noise, uneven tire wear after three alignments, a noise from his steering column when turning, etc. What's the point of this? Every automobile company has problems, so when you decide to buy something else, you often swap one set of problems for another set.

2000----F-150, SC 5.4 with 10,000 mi. and engine has no slap even at start up after sitting for several days in 10 deg. temps. Engine is a little noisy for a few min. but is not the dreaded slap. I am as particular as anyone here and if it slapped I would know. I use Mobile 1 with Motorcraft filter

Day Two and Three:
The Service Manager at the Dealership finally contacted Ford's Regional Engineer to report the PS problem and he said that he would like to meet with me and hear the engine on Wednesday to verify that it is indeed PS. I will be standing right by the engineer and my truck on Wednesday morning so there is no debating the issue. I figure he will hear the engine slapping and issue me a new engine and thats what the Service Manager feels will happen as well.
The two options were conveyed to the regional engineer from me. New engine or new truck which ever they want to do but no remanufactured engine. They told me that I was not guaranteed that a new engine would fix the problem and I told them if we have to replace an engine every week until they get it right then they are accountable for doing so or just give me a new truck and we will do the same until we get one with a engine that doesn't have PS. The Service Manager liked my style of standing up to Ford with this issue and they are still backing me up.
