3.73s or 4.10s?
3.73s or 4.10s?
Probably been asked before.
I'm wanting to change my rear diff gears to a 3.73 or 4.10. Haven't decided.
I have 3.08s right now...
How do I tell what size gears I need to get? 8.8"? 9.75"?
How big of a mpg difference will I see between the 3.08s and the 3.73s? 4.10s? Keeping stock sized tires probably forever. No plans to change wheels or tire.
Is there is a big difference between 3.73s and 4.10s mpg wise?

Don't know how much help I can be but I will try.
First I am not for sure of any of the details on what your truck setup is.
Best way to check axle size is too look at the rear diff tag. It should be bolted to the rear diff cover. The numbers on it might look all crunched together but you should see 8.8 or 9.75 somewhere on there, along with your 3.08 gear ratio.
Since your going from 3.08's, any change will feel like a big improvement. Generally a gear swap is not worth doing unless you go .25 or bigger. As for MPG and what gear you choose should be based on what you want the truck to do and what type of driving you do. If you want it fast off the line but do not care about top end speed or MPG then you need 4.10's. If you want more HWY driveablity and better MPG get 3.73's or smaller.

Also, hop over to "other drivetrain" and do some research there. Ask Max Mitchel or gearman they really know their stuff.
