help! elbow to heater coil rusted out

1984 Ford F-150 Explorer, 4.9L inline 6.

The sensor body won't fit into the Motorcraft part e2tz18599a I just purchased. Also, I cannot get the old elbow out. any suggestions, experience? thanks much.

What sensor are you talking about? And, where won't it fit? Are you talking about the heater core inlet at the firewall?

elbow

Wow. it's some sensor that screws into the elbow for the heater hoses off the thermostat is all I know. Actually, the problem is all better now.

The special order part that I couldn't pick up until next Tuesday - today - was actually in stock on Saturday. The difficulty we were having getting the sensor screwed in was, as our neighbor mechanic and new friend told us, the piece tapers to form a tight seal. The thermostat had to come off to screw in the elbow because the manifold is too close, so he replaced it too. The best news, this was the only time I panicked about the whole incident. thanks for your time. Fair warning, don't go futsing with some rusty stuff hanging on a 19 year old part.
