is the truck an xlt? i beleive that the xlt gives you power mirrors. i assume that your truck is an xlt because i didnt think you could get the ORP unless it was. someone correct me if i am wrong. if it has power mirrors, it has a 3 position switch, to the left controls the left mirror, center position is off and the right position is for the right mirror.

The ORP was available on XL's until the 98 model year. Easy way to tell that you have power mirrors is if they are large, with a fixed housing around the mirror. If you have thinner mirrors, and they are a flat black (like the XL 4x4 wheel flares)

Cool Power Mirrors

Hey everbody!
I bought a used '98 F150 a year ago. It is a sweet truck: Black, flareside, EC, ORP, V8, CD changer, etc....the thing is loaded.
For some unknown reason, I can't adjust my mirrors from inside the cab, electronically or manually. It must have been ordered this way? I have to roll down my window to adjust them or do it from the outside.
I talked to my Ford dealer and they said that there is a conversion from manual windows to electric, but no converson from nothing to manual or electric.
Any ideas? I am getting really tired of having to reach out the window and adjust these things. : )

Cool

Thanks for the help so far guys....
See, this is where I am confused...it is an XLT with the color matched mirrors, but there is absolutely no way of adjusting them from the inside. Must have been ordered that way?
Any more ideas? Or know of a mirror adjustment kit?

only other thing i can think of is the stx/sport package on an xl. They did have the colour keyed mirrors, but were manual in operation.

You might need to get new inner door skins to put auto mirrors on, but i'd call your local parts desk and inquire.

Cool

Thanks Bambino...
It is an XLT...I know it...even the title says that it is. It is the parts counter that told me that it couldn't be done....arrg!! : )
Thanks for all of your suggestions anyway.

From what i can tell (i used to work on the assembly line in Oakville, ON when i was a student) you can make these mirrors power, but i'm sure you would have to do some work.

That would include, new inner door skins/panels; routing power to the door (do you have power windows? I would think not); and of course the necessary hardware.

When i worked on the line in the 'trim' department, they power for the windows and mirrors, were sent to the doors by the same bunch of power cords.

I'm in a similar debate with keyless entry, i want it, but it will be a lot of work to get there. But, if you want something, nothing more satisfying than doing what you want with your rig!

Cool

Thanks Bambino for the ideas.
Believe it or not I do have power windows and there looks like there is a indented peice of plastic on the door panel where an adjustment switch for the mirrors would go. So maybe all the wiring is already there...I just need the mirrors?
Well, thanks again...

Wink

well, now you have me stumped, so the best thing in my mind would be to peel your door apart and take a look. Might be a lot easier than suspected.

keep in mind that the wiring for windows and mirrors usually travels together, as the factory likes to keep things simple when assembling.
