Post what kind of oil do I use?

I purchased a truck three thousand miles ago and I didn't get an owners manual with it. It has a 5.4 liter tritan V-8 in it. I want to know if it uses 5W-30.

It does use 5w30 if it's 2000 model or older, 2001 are 5w20.

Do a search for 'oil' in engines, and you'll be surprised how much discussion is available.

Hey, ruger-dfw. I read on one of your discussions that Amsoil pure synthetic oil can be ran 25k without being changed. I am very interested in how available this oil is and how much it costs. I am also skeptical on how this oil can go this long without breaking down. I haven't heard of any other oil that can be ran this long. Post me some info.

I am not sure if I am correct but I am sure someone told me that shanging the type of oil you use in your engine after a few oil changes is very bad for your engine. Let me know

Go here and you will find the break down.

Q. Will AMSOIL Motor Oils void the warranty of a new vehicle?

A. Absolutely not! Manufacturers’ warranties are based upon the use of oils meeting specific API Service Classifications, for example, SJ/CF. (AMSOIL lubricants meet the current API Service requirements and, thus, are perfectly suited for use in any new vehicle without affecting the validity of the new vehicle warranty

Q. Will AMSOIL Motor Oils decrease oil consumption?

A. Yes. When used in mechanically sound engines, AMSOIL Motor Oils can reduce oil consumption. Under test conditions, a reduction of as much as 42% was demonstrated for prolonged periods. However, this should not be taken to mean that AMSOIL Motor Oils are “cure-alls” for engines that consume oil because of mechanical problems.

Q. Is there a recommended procedure for changing to AMSOIL Motor Oils?

A. There are no special requirements; however, in older vehicles or those with high mileage, it may be advisable to use AMSOIL Engine Flush first. This will ensure that the engine is clean and free of any accumulated contaminants which might have an effect on the service life of AMSOIL Motor Oils. In all cases, it is good judgement to install a new AMSOIL Super Duty Full-Flow Oil Filter (SDF) every time you change oil.

I hope this will help. I changed my oil in my 99 Ford back in Aug, with all the heat and the oil look just as good as putting in.
Just replace the filter after 6 months and replace the oil that the filter keeps, than replace the filter and the oil @ 25,000 miles or 1 year witch ever comes first. Good Luck. Let me know what you think. Thanks
