Crankshaft Pulley - Help with removal
HELP, I've been trying for days to remove the crankshaft pulley from my '84 inline 6 cyl manual F150...!!!
It "wobbles" when the engine is running but the bolt in the front is tight. There's some rubber that's "oozed" out the front and is clanking on the fan.
I could use any advice for loosening the large bolt in the front of the pulley. Is a ordinary, regular right-hand thread or a left-hand thread.
Thanks...Paul Izon

I think you want the harmonic balancer replaced if stuff is oozing out. First, there are 3 or 4 - 3/8" bolts holding the actual pulley. Take them out & the pulley falls off. The center bolt turns ccw to loosen and may be pretty tight. I always impact it off. Then you need a balance wheel puller you can probably rent at an auto parts store.

Thanks redlariet, I have the 15/16 center bolt out now but there are no smaller bolts anywhere!!?? The pulley looks like it should just slide off the shaft (woodruff key) but it's stuck fast. I guess I'll now have to rent a puller.
Thanks again...
Thanks again...
The pulley is off...Yeh!!!
It looks I'll have to replace the complete pulley/balancer.
The inner pulley hub is what bolts onto the front of the crankshaft with the large 15/16 bolt, then there is a sleeve of rubber about 1/8" thick between the hub and the 3 valley pulley rim. Over the years the rubber has disintigrated and oozed out from between the pulley rim and hub. There was very little holding the pulley rim in place and could have liberated at any time.
Well, off to the auto parts place now.

Lucky you caught it; the projectile damage can be substantial.
