Post Bad Check Engine lite

I had 2 coils go bad the other day comming home from work! the weird thing is that the check engine light did not come on. I know the bulb is good. Well I just made it to the ford dealer and so far the cost is up to $350 bucks for the new coils and installation they are checking to see if I need a new PCM.

Cool

I was told by local Ford dealer that the coolant hose at the rear of the engine was not tightened properly from the factory therefore coolant drips onto coil and shorts it out. I too had 2 coils replaced and the coolant hose tightened. Fortunately had 20k on truck and it was covered under warranty.

Nacho,

Check your warranty book, you should find that the PCM is covered for a longer period of time, in Canada it is 8 years and 130,000km ( 81,250 miles ). Ask them to split up the bill for the PCM and diagnostics for the PCM.

Well I got lucky and only had to pay $211 for the change of the coil. But I cant understand why the check engine light didnt come on when the engine had a bad mis. The service guy said that It takes several time for the computer to pick up the problem! is this so? Well the truck runs fine now but I would really like to know if the PCM is working correctly.
